I know _I_ frequently have a need to go to East LA and Boyle Heights using public transit. I especially like how it takes a route that is impacted by the surface traffic. There's nothing like having a train that gets slower over time as surface streets become more congested. They even admit takes the same amount of time as the bus. Who are they kidding? What a waste of money. Do this thing right or just don't do it.

I will happily ride this to Boyle Heights to go to La Serenata for dinner without having to worry about parking my car.... to go to Little Tokyo or the Arts District to hang out (also, without having to park my car). I will NOT ride a bus, but I WILL ride metro rail. So, it works perfectly well for me!

Why won't you ride a bus?

I think many of the service workers who care for Pasadena's homes and gardens might like to ride peacefully and without effort after a day's work. And they may not have a car in any case.

Everyone will ride for FREE when "MARIACHIS" perform ! But will that many more ride when there will be a "FEE" ? I think not ! Some of these same people DON`T PAY when they ride the Goldline to Chinatown !It sounds like a BIG waste of money already. The ticket{if it is purchased}should be visible at a glance .And random ticket validations.Post the fines {for not having paid a fee for you trip}at all the stations .Let the the free loaders know that the fine will be 4xs the fee! That will bring in revenues !!!

FINALLY someone not afraid to enjoy our great city's many cultural gifts, from neighbor hood to neighborhood, there's so much out there for us to enjoy, that first guy that commented, said he was to scared to come to boyle heights, or downtown, what a sorrowful figure, he wouldnt last a day on new york's subway system. GOOD FOR YOU JENNY!!
come on people take back your city!!

First, I avoid NYC's subway system like the plague. I always take cabs when I am in NYC.

Second, I lived in the Bay Area and took BART. I didn't even own a car for 5 years. I am not opposed to public transit.

Third, it's not that I am scared of Boyle Heights. It's that there's no reason to go there. Sure, La Serenata is great, but I'd rather drive thanks - especially when it will take the same amount of time!

Fourth, the Metro already went downtown. This new extension has nothing to do with going downtown.

Last, my complaint is that the Metro does things backwards. They build in areas very few people need to go to and they have some many surface crossings that it's no better than the _SLOW_ bus in terms of speed. Look at San Francisco to figure out how to design a rail system. LA's attempt at it is, so far, a sad joke and clowns like Tony are lauding the effort instead of lobbying to do things the proper way.

Cultural gifts?
I grew up in East L.A./Boyle Heights area there are no cultural gifts. Oh wait, the cool aztec murals, no wait the illegal street vendors who don't pay taxes or adhere to sanitation laws, no better yet the Mercadito (a shitty indoor swap meet). Get real people, if you love Mexico so much and want to replicate it here, why did you ever leave? and please spare the rhetoric of jobs & opportunity because the only thing you tell your kids is that this country owes them something. There are a few of us that do make it out of the barrio and better ourselves but its only when we abandon the nationalistic views of our beloved Mexico. A country that doesn't care for you, but you're willing to die for...funny if you ask me.
P.S. I can do this all day so don't be trite.

23 minutes huh? That's good if you need to commute every day. But if you only go downtown a few times a year, say to a theater or Staples Center, it's worth driving down. Evem you pay a few bucks to park, it is still worth it.

I ride the Metro rail for free everyday to work and i have not bought a ticket in over 3 years. Why should i as nobody ever checks. Plus the Gold Line extention really sucks. Nobody i know wants to visit East L.A. at all. I don't want to get shot! Plus there is nothing there that interest me at all. Just a waste of money.

I agree with Listen Tony. Our MTA would be a good example of a 2nd-world city transit system.

Also, LOL at "getting a seat" on the Gold Line. I don't suppose they will be adding an additional car to the trains to help with the increased load...or banning greasy bicycles...

And LOL at "one seat" - that's pretty much all that's left after a couple of stops. I go out of my way to get on at an earlier stop than I really need to, in order to get a seat on the train. I would not consider taking the train if I had to stand every day.

The turnstiles are coming because all the illegal alien Mexicans aren't paying. Once again, they ruined things for us.
