The only way state and federal lawmakers know how to band aid anything is to tax the already overtaxed citizens. They could never reach a solution that does not involve raising taxes.Too bad we can't fire lawmakers when they do their job poorly

On top of this, if you are a parent of a college student (SUNY), you are contributing toward the state's general fund by paying increased tuition, 90 percent of which is NOT going to SUNY but going to the state. A backdoor tax. Disgusting.

This is about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I guess the next Gov and leader of the senate are going to be Republican

Question of the day: Why do we keep electing these jerks to the state legislature? Craig Johnson skated in last election, for example.

While I don't like the idea of a payroll tax, the school districts are getting a taste of their own BS when it comes to taxes. The districts have been taxing residents of LI with no end in site for years, even when property values decrease they continue to raise taxes. Business are complaining that none of their employees use the MTA?? Who cares? I am single with no children yet I pay $10,000/year in school taxes. You think it matters that you don't use the MTA? Wake up!

When voters get their favorite project funded from legislators member items funds they forget how they failed them in management of OUR money. Democratic and Republican assemblymen and Senators are no better than organized crime.

Long Island's interests are never well represented in Albany. We are merely a cash cow for the upstate pols and the lobbyists. As corrupt and incompetent as our local pols are at least we keep it in the family.

if you don't like this mta bailout deal blame the two new democrat state senators from long island CRAIG JOHNSON and BRIAN FOLEY who agreed to vote for the bailout. they had the power to stop the deal but didn't. this is what happens when one party (the democrats) centered in nyc controls the whole state. nyc interests control everything. why did JOHNSON and FOLEY agree to such a bad deal for their constituents? that's a story NEWSDAY should be but probably won't be working on.

The real idiots are the voters who voted for Foley and Johnson. These two lapdogs justify by saying that they received a promise that the school districts will be reimbursed. They are either stupid, naive, or dishonest. With NYS looking at billions of future deficits, does anyone other than these two really believe that the school districts will be reimbursed?

This is happening because the idiots in Suffolk defeated a Republican Senator--leaving the Dems in control over both houses and the Governorship. This is what we all said would happen--a giant sucking sound followed by our money going to the City. Skelos would have stopped this he was still majority leader. If Newsday wasn't in the tank, it would be blasting away at LI Democrats for allowing this to happen.

This is what you get with a "one party" dominated state government, especially one dominated by Democrats.

Time to investigate the spending habits of the MTA. Small item, but flagmen who do NOT show up on jobs during the week force contracts into week-end work. This creates over-time for both the contractor and MTA agency. Doesn't sound like much, but it costs MILLIONS OF DOLLARS a year. There is no penalty against the flagman since the supervisors benifit, all at the expense of the taxpayers.

This thing hasn't even been voted on but is cosidered a "done deal". That's how Albany works - deals get done in back rooms by three men and then the assmbly and senate rubberstamp what the bosses want.

The bride and I are rethinking the thoughts about staying in New York once she retires. I'm sure we can sell the house to some absentee landlord or a ghetto trash single mom lawsuit winner with several children sporting different last names to help out the Long Island demographic.

What a joke..Skelos is just as corrupt as the next guy. He has his own agenda.
Foley sold us out

Rather then doing what is right for Long Island, Foley sold out the interests of his constituents in a back room deal. I can just imagine what he got in return for spitting in the face of long islanders.

Once again our politicians look to reward special interests and supporters at the rest of our expense.

Foley needs to be fired, he is not representing the people who voted him in and who pay his salary.

The reason he sold out his constituents is because he knows that when he is up for re-election, the voters will have forgotten. Rememeber, when politicians fear the people, that is democracy. When the people fear the government, that is tyranny.
