I don’t think the title “Police Officer” applies to these thugs.

The jury heard the evidence, and found it insufficient to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt on the most serious charges. Let's see what happens with the rest of the charges. Either way, this whole incident shouldn't have happened.

True. Maybe if the idiot 'tourist' used some common sense and didn't get so hammered and cause problems, the police would not have been called and we wouldn't be posting on this story. Sometimes, a-holes get what they deserve.

Are you aware of the lawsuits against the village of Ocean Beach, due to the "excessive force" of it's police dept? They have all been settled, paid by the residents. Maybe if the police weren't drinking (among other things) while on the job this wouldn't have happened. Did the tourist drink too much? Probably, but that doesn't mean he deserved to get tag teamed in the stationhouse by those who are paid to protect.
The problem is, this was not an isolated case, but I'm sure the prosecutors were not allowed to bring up their previous incidents.

Bt the way, I am usually on the side of the police, but I have seen first hand how these cowboys police.

OK, I have not seen how the 'cowboys police' so I won't argue that point. Of course there are bad cops like in every profession. What I have seen is moron after moron at a bar, drink way too much, to the point that someone (usually the bar owners/mgt that don't want to call the police because it's bad for business) call the police. When the cops show up, some of these idiots don't get it and turns ugly. I'll leave it up to the jury to decide the fate of the cops, but in society today, cops are easy targets and there are alot of losers who bring these problems on themselves.

I agree with the above 100%, and I'm not saying that this guy didn't play a part in it.

But....these cops are on an island that is a soasonal hot spot. From Memorial Day to labor Day the place is packed on the weekends, and this is the only time it's businesses make money. Being on an island also gives these cops a license to do as they wish, and that is what they do. The head cop spent a lot of time in the bars as well as in their back rooms. Normally I give the nod to cops, but I've seen these goons in action.
