I have a business on LI. Tell me why I should keep it in a state that denies me the rights of marriage even when are called "civil unions". A state that allows me no path to recognition for me and my partner.

(and btw, I live in LA and have a business on LI too -- why shouldn't I move it to a state that gives (and my employees) at least comparable rights? Such as MA, CT, VT, IA, NJ, NH, WA, CA, ME, MD, OR -- that's a lot of competition for NY state -- if you want me to take the jobs off of LI and move them to CT or NJ, ok.

Mr. Scott,
It was a business decision. The Jets want ALL their consumers to be able to enjoy the game. It's no big deal. No one is forcing their religon on you. Don't be paranoid.

I agree with the above writers about gay marriage. It is immoral, unnatural, and should not be ligitimized. Marriage should be between one man and one woman. Also, if gay marriage passes, you will have a fight in the schools as the gay agenda is presented against parent's wishes and actively promoted by liberal educators. One solution is to look at the major culprit behind gay marriage, the Democratic Party. With the support of the amoral Hollywood community, the media and the gay militants, the pandering Democrats have placed this issue on top of the pile. The best thing to do is to avoid voting for Demcrats at all, as this party is always behind abortion, same sex marriage, and socialism, as well as hate crimes legislation designed to silence those opposed to the gay agenda on grounds of consicence.

To kate sommers--
UH what other types of marriages??? One between an animal and a human? Get over it, it doesn't affect you.
If 20 gay people got married in secret, without telling you, do you think that would alter your life in any way?? would that bring despair to your home? So why care so much...?
This goes to John too.

Exactly. And what Ms. Sommers appears to be unaware of is that marriage was not originally 1 man, 1 woman. It was 1 man and however many women he could afford. So much for "other" kinds of marriage.

Oh, and yeah, Ms. Sommers, gay people have repeatedly been denied access to or decision making on behalf of their partners - that's part of why marriage is so important to the gay community.

Go ahead, i DON'T CARE. I wish other people wouldn't either. People care so much about things like this, but turn away when they hear about the starving, sick children in this country.
WOO.

Kate Sommers"

You're a little late to the party there Kate: the "Values Voters," and the Right-wingers have been shouting for years now that if same-sex marriage becomes legalized, there will be an onslaught of people rushing to churches and "Justices-of-the-Peace, " to marry their: sheep, donkeys, goats, horses, mules, chickens, and other assorted barnyard fare.
I must confess though that I find it immeasurably interesting and amusing that the Conservatives automatically come up with these sorts of scenarios, I sometimes wonder whether or not they've actually struck onto something, Isn't farming typically associated with "Red-States,"and Conservative church-going Christians?
Are they voicing a fear that once legalized, they might feel the irresistible pull to head to the church with Daisy, their prized cow the very next day?

I hope you don't have any wool sweaters. If so, you're likely to follow Gene Wilder's path in "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex..."
Before long, you'll be entangled in a long legal battle and finally end up drinking Woolite from the bottle on a street corner somewhere in the city.

If gay marriage is legalized then I guess I can pick up another wife. That is if I'm some kind of sadist...

I don't really have a problem with gay marriage because it's really insignificant in the grand scheme of problems that plague with this country but if it is ever legalized it will open up Pandora's box on a scale unseen in decades. Example? Read my first sentence.:)

Why do people think that if two consenting adults are allowed to marry, it leads to marrying several adults or farm animals? How do you get from point A to that point?

What ever happened to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness"? This country was founded so that individuals have the right to practice their beliefs and live the most fulfilling life that he/she is able. People need to stop thinking of only themselves and respect the happiness and freedom of others who want to live happy, rewarding lives with the spouse of his/her choice; whether that be of the same sex or opposite sex. Stop being so restrictive and let people just be happy...

I'm glad that we are making progress in the fight for equality and civil rights for all.
People who argue against marriage equality use fear tactics (a storm is coming!), outrageous claims (if we allow gay marriage, then pretty soon people will want to marry their dogs, or their daughters), and plain lies (churches will loose their tax exempt status and children will be taught gay marriage in schools). They do so because it is no longer acceptable to display naked hatred and prejudice against people. They have no real argument to support their "marriage" crusade, so they have to resort to lies. These "Christians" and Mormons use a whole lot of unspiritual energy towards denying rights to a persecuted minority group. If only they were to divert that energy to a more worthwhile cause, like ending torture, unecessary wars, or world hunger, then maybe the world would be a better place! I have yet to see a "Christian" actually practice what they preach. Who would Jesus persecute? Who would Jesus bomb? What gun brand would Jesus buy?
I believe that some day, when people are free to marry the person they love and not have it be a huge political issue, people will look back on this decade and wonder what the big deal was. On that day, when there truly is "Liberty and Justice for all", people will look our generation the same way we look at the generation that fought racial desegregation and universal suffrage for women.

When will we stop debating the issue of gay marriage? Why is it even an issue in the first place? It does not effect most of us one iota. The economy will not get better if gay people are or are not allowed to get married. Our children will still be steered into overpriced colleges only to find no jobs when they get out. Millions of people will still be without health care. Why oh why are we focusing so much damn time and energy on such nonsense???? STOP IT!!!!!!!

Same-sex marriage has been legal for 5 years in Massachussetts. Society has not fallen apart there. No heterosexual marriages have been harmed in any way. Nobody there has proposed any laws allowing someone to marry children, their pets, their cars, or multiple people. A bill like that would get laughed out of the legislature. There is no "Pandora's Box" those right-wing fear-mongerers would like you to think.

Furthermore, there is no inborn, natural desire for people to be sexually attracted to children, their pets, or their cars. Some people are born with a natural, sexual attraction towards those of the same sex. And they may want to marry someone of the same sex, the same way heterosexual people want to marry someone (and only ONE person at ONE time) of the same sex.

And, as another letter writer wrote, why should someone other than a spouse have to go through all kinds of legal hoops (and spend a lot of money) just to get a health care proxy? Being a legally married spouse automatically grants those rights.

Interracial marriage was banned in many states before the courts overturned those bans. Interracial marriage was once thought to be an abomination, against "god's will" (as the Virginia judge in his decision which got overruled by the U.S. Supreme Court in the Loving case. Today, it is perfectly normal, as it should be.

There is NO secular reason to oppose same-sex marriage. The only reasons are "I am offended" and "I don't want them to have equal rights" and "It violates my religious views". Well, you don't get to impose your religious views onto others who do not share them. Get over it!

Can we PLEASE just let gay people get married already so that we can focus on fishing our country out of the toilet it's been in for the last eight years? We really do need to focus on things other than what two consenting adults choose to do with their lives. As our jobs disappear each day and out environment becomes more poisoned, we are distracted by small nonsense that is none of our business. We could help this country get back on track a lot faster if we would just keep our noses out of other people's bedrooms.
