Several priors, kidnapping, DV--really a nice guy-yet the DA and Court allowed him to plead down. This happens all the time anymore. People are not tried for the crimes they commit, they are allowed to plead down for the sake of getting a conviction and it is fast. I guess justice takes a backseat to quick.

This is so scary. This 12 year old is so lucky she did not get kidnapped, my gosh mommies don't supervise their kids' online activities anymore don't they? or maybe they never have.

wow, another predator slipping through the hands of our DA......thats a shocker!!! if convicted he faces up to six years.....hmm....well, he already plead guilty, so i think he deserves the 6yrs, if not..more! but with our finest DA on the case, i'm assuming he'll only get about 6mnths at the most!!! GO DA, YOU GUYS ARE BEING THE BEST THAT YOU CAN BE!!!!!!!!

Shake my world, we are lucky it was an officer and NOT a 12 yr old girl. Also, yes this Mommy monitors closely what her children do online.

Read the article again, there never was an actual 12 year old involved. I am not condoneing what this guy did but isnt that a form of entrapment? Go ahead and correct me if I'm wrong.

Entrapment is an inconspicuous way of catching perps who are knowingly doing something wrong. For example, cops waiting outside of a bar to catch DWI is, in my opinion, not entrapment because that perp knows that he/she should not drive drunk. Perverts know that messing around children is WRONG. Good that they get caught and embarrassed.

Embarressed isn't quite severe enough a word. More like shamed and shunned. You only get off with embarrassement if you're a celebrity.

This predator will probably get 3 years just like the elder navajo man who raped a child did. Yet men who beat their wives get 10 years are more. I guess within NM, attempted child molestation and child rape are not a very serious crime. No wonder pedophiles move to NM. They know they won't get harsh punishments.

Comparing two crimes, no matter how similar we think they appear to be, is flawed at best.

Want to get pedophiles out of New Mexico? Email your lawmakers... start petitions... etc. But be careful in your zeal as the cure might be worse than the sickness... Though, on a purely emotional level, it will never seem like it.

Maybe the headline should read soliciting an adult police officer instead of a local child since a local child was never actually involved. Was just wondering; shouldn't these cops be out there catching criminals instead of trying to lure predators on the internet, I wonder how many of these guys they tried to lure caught on and got away, while at the same time criminals committing actual crimes in town also got away as well?

Perhaps I'm too cynical, but which would sell more papers?

Have you all never herd of a cyber nanny! People spend all day doing this on line in hopes to protect one child. Stop feeling bad for this sicko and be glad there are eyes on OUR children when R eyes are off!!!!!!!

It wasn't a 12yo girl, it was an male officer. Also since a navajo medicine man will only get 18 months to 3 years in jail for RAPING a young girl, then this guy should only just get probation right?

This man should get at least 10 years, the navajo medicine man should be hanged.

Daily Times Headline:
"A well-known Navajo Medicine Man gets 18 months for RAPING young Child."

That would sell tons of papers and get the story to a national level.

if one intentionaly gives an officer false identification.. then that goes against a few laws.. shouldn't the officer be charged also for protraying himself as a 12 yr old girl .. I'm sure he can dress like one .. but not say he is a 12 yr old girl and give a false name.. I'm am no way saying that what this perv did was right, but the officers should respect the laws they inforce. .. or maybe the officer wanted a webcam ..

I am all for this type of entrapment. Keep these perverts who like little kids off the street if possible. Since we can't keep them off the street for ever I guess registering is the next best thing.

Daily Horoscope for December 7

Taurus

There are powerful forces at work in a relationship today, and they'll have quite an impact on you. If you're with that special person in your life, don't be surprised if there's a lot of sexual tension between you that manifests as irritation and bad temper. You'll probably have a huge row and then have a very enjoyable time making it up.
