1 Mr. Finkle stated that: “[I am] really concerned about the possible effects to the education system with what is shaping up to be a zero-percent increase [education] budget. Mr. Finkle has been a BOE member for 12 years. He served as the board’s chairman for 10 years before losing the seat to Marilyn Vitale (D) following Mayor April Capone Almon’s election in 2007. As Chairman of the Board of Education shouldn’t Mr. Finkle been well aware of any problems and worked with the then Republican Administration to correct them? Mr Finkle stated he was “Moved by the overwhelming support of the Republican Town Committee,” to run this year for Mayor…Would this be the same Republican Town Committee that look at the most recent 2007 campaign finance report for then incumbent Republican Mayor, Joseph Maturo Jr. shows an outstanding balance of $11,311.61. To date there are no other reports filed stating these debts have been paid. The bulk of that money is owed to the Country House of East Haven for a ‘victory’ party planned on Election Night of 2007. Though Republicans were not victorious in their bid for re-election the party was held anyway, however, the report shows the tab was never paid. Additional money is owed to Key Point Management for utility bills for Republican headquarters. Longtime Board of Education member and former chairman John Finkle (R) promises “to bring fiscal responsibility back to the mayor’s office” and has stated “The financial situation in town is a mess and it has to be cleaned up.” In my opinion the Republican Party and it’s Mayoral candidate should start taking fiscal responsibility and pay it’s outstanding bills first before creating new ones that the taxpayers will have to be responsible for paying. Finkle said his “strong desire to make East Haven the shining star it once was” comes from the fact that he and his wife, Cathy, both grew up in town and raised their three children, Alexis, Catherine, and Jonathan, here. I’ve lived in East Haven for over twenty years and have never been ashamed to call East Haven home or seen the shoreline’s shining star shine brighter then the last 15 months under the current Administration. |

You've got to be kidding me right? Ok Bozo the Clown a.k.a The Truth - by the way love your town website, we all know this town in divided into Dem and Rep, however let talk independant for a minute here . Right is Right and I am sorry John Finkle is right. Facts are Facts, anytime you have a minute sit and speak to a Democrat or Republican on the board of education, they all are saying the same thing! When is everyone going to stop and think about what is actually going on here...its ok to give all those wonderful raises in town hall, public works and so on WHILE I might ad we were in an economic downturn. Any SMART mayor should have and already had forcasted where this town was going and its budget set forth. She had cuts in her 1st budget but gave raises, she is still suppose to have 250,000 left from the Candlelight Building insurance claim, she saved so much money on turning the heat off at the high school and this is great so where did the money go? If we were headed into the red then why did she give out so many LARGE raises? Are you kidding me? John Finkle has passion, John Finkle cares and is fed up with all the lies that this administration is trying to feed us "Common People" - how much more bull is do they think we are going to believe? I am not saying by any means that the last Repub. administraion did everything correct but I truly feel that this is the type of person I want standing behind me and being this passionate about my town and for my family and you should too!

It is my understanding that John Finkle was at one time, a Democrat and switched loyalties when the Maturo administration came into being. Does anyone out there know the facts? If this is true, I have some concerns about his motivation.

Finkle's wife was also appointed the BOE attorney.
He, Pat Romano (the former police commission chairman who along with Maturo were running their agenda with Nappes case) and Joe Maturo also all had private business ventures. Finkle and Maturo's beloved Republican Town Committee also reaped in the donations of almost every company holding town contracts (INCLUDING THOUSANDS of dollars from OR&L who manages the High School (also one of the "private" companies Maturo was interested in letting run a banquet facility at the Candlelight property. At expense of the town to make a donor a profit. Oh by the way, One of Finkle and Romano's business ventures was/is Bella Notte. YES A BANQUET FACILITY. |

Check that one with your beloved Mr. Mauro and his back pocket deals. Do I agree that some back pocket deals were made sure I do, however lets call a spade a spade, you might want to look close and hard at the dems in office right now, and who is pocketing what "Currently" and all she preached she has breeched and more lots more! The truth will sooooonnn be told. Lets face it George everyones crooked, we can trust NO ONE!

1 She's still working for them. I stand by everything else. The Republicans lost a ton of income when they lost the office, and desperately need it back. Their business dealings weren't just business they were major conflicts of interests. Almost every company or person awarded town contracts became major contributors to the RTC. |

But George isn't that unfortunatley the way it works? Straight to the top of Washington..I don't even fault Aprils campaign contributors who by the way have gotten plently of paying jobs in this town right down again to Mr. Mauro's son and his sons girlfriend working in this town. Ruccos daughter is the secretary on and on..isn't that the way it works? So really then you cannot complain about the republicans doing the same. April stated when Hongo's job was up for the application process that she was going to look high and low for the most qualified. Low and behold BOOM...HER and HER Husbands union leader had the job, she knew him too. Erica her friend has a job so on and son...I don't blame her putting her friends to work, family, people she knows BUT don't point a finger and complain about something every does EVERYONE...I think there should be it should be written just like a sweepstakes entry you cannot be related to anyone to join ever further you cannot even know them. That would make it equal. Plenty of bids for work had to be for some reason or another re-bid (haha) because the person "They" wanted lost the bid then some excuse was made it had to be re-bid..Clue here ILLEGAL! Heres one for you look into the coupala bid,(Rumor has it)Paul I think it was got his ass handed to him on a plate from Capasso's(person doing the coupala now)attorney becuase crap was being pulled with a bid on him too. You think the Reps were doing wrong? I agree to a point but GEEZZZ wait till the truth comes out about the beloved DEMS...WOW

1 The bottom line was the previous administration over estimated revenue, and when it didn't come in ignored it, but left the figures on paper anyway. That audit showed the shortfall, it also showed that Mayor Capone-Almon under spent the towns budget by nearly a million dollars for 07-08. so the short fall would have potentially been bigger had she not implemented a spending freeze when she took office. Thats the Truth |

1 The School? Its about 8 years over due for the renovations. And its not taken out of the budget most funds are state building grants. The renovation is wellllllll needed. John Finkle and his dolts friends ignored just about every town building the last 10 years, so now, its catch up time. Hence the Middle School, the Fire House, The 100,000.00 just earmarked for the Police Department. The Towns assets are literally crumbling. THAT affects the big picture, its asset protection, and the more they detoriorate the less assets our town has. Quite frankly much of what i have seen and heard from Finkle and the rest of his clan has either been lies, half-truths, or total twists on reality. I don't nor will i ever trust him. I had 3 kids go through the East Haven Schools during his watch over the BOE, and it got worse each year. |
