The writer neglects to tell the audience what the the "4-poster" program is.

Unfortunately they've scapegoated deer as the primary carriers of ticks. Actually it's mice, birds and other small mammals who are the primary culprits in spreading ticks.

And they did not elaborate on what the 4 poster setup is. As a bow hunter I am keenly aware of how politicians recklessly spend taxpayer money on failed government solutions such as the 4 poster system, failed deer culls that yielded 192 deer at the cost of over $200.000. And now what will be a failed sterilization program which they "estimate" at $1,000 per female deer!

Frankly if they want to reduce the deer population on the east and they need to work with the New York State Department of environmental conservation. For many many years the DEC has had an adversarial relationship with licensed bow hunters on Long Island. Too many restriction and regulations have kept bow hunters from accessing smaller wood lots. To make matters worse they banned cross bows from Suffolk County. So they removed a commonly used hunting implement from hunters on Long Island.
They should extend the hunting season and issue more tags.

Many town owned and managed properties have been restricted to hunters who live only in those towns. As a result there are not enough hunters on tell manage property to harvest enough deer.

So the problem metastasizes.

The DEC is at the root of the deer herd problem on Long Island. And many politicians have been complicit were too lazy to address the fact that hunters can resolve the problem without wasting taxpayer money.

Again loosen the regulations and restrictions and let licensed bow hunters take care of the problem.
