Coast Guard relieves Montauk station commander
#1 Oct 25, 2009
IT IS TOTALLY REDICULOUS TO PENALIZE THE MONTAUK COMMANDING OFFICER FOR TAKING HIS WORK SERIOUSLY. AS A SEAMAN IN MONTAUK, I CAN ATTEST, THE CONDITIONS THE CREW WERE PRACTICING IN ARE NOT AT ALL UNUSUAL IN MONTAUK. IF THE EQUIPMENT IS PROVIDED TO THE COMMANDING OFFICER, A REASONABLE PERSON WOULD ASSUME PRACTICE AND DRILLS WOULD BE A NECESSITY TO PERFORM EFFICIENTLY AT A TIME OF EMERGENCY. WHEN LIFE IS AT RISK, PRACTICE AND DRILLS ARE AN ABSOLUTE NECESSITY LONG BEFORE SERVICES ARE NEEDED. CAPT. JAMES KANE, MONTAUK NY

I think that about the big bunch of bullS**t.
I was station at Montauk in 64to66 and we did all drills just like they did...
THAT WAS OUR JOB..
if we didn't do it, and went out and didn't know
how than WHAT??? remember we have to go out but
we didn't have to come back....
I love Montauk and all the people That I new
when I was station there.
