Do you think you do not pay enough in real estate property taxes and personal property taxes? That is what a clique of 100 people in Colchester say every year; they go to town hall and protest cutting the increased spending whenever there are attempts to limit spending to keep our tax rate stable.

So the Board of Finance listens to the big spenders and presents a budget with a tax increase every year; this year they want 4.8% more!

Some even claim they WANT to pay higher taxes to maintain services and for "the kids." But kids have to pay adults to play, and so many kids do not play, and seniors and the disabled reduce what they eat or medicines they take so that a lucky few can claim they want more taxes and more government in our lives!

Are we letting people whose salaries come from our taxes tell our leaders that must raise our taxes?

Do you think that is a conflict of interest?

If so, then go to Town Hall in Colchester Monday night at 7 PM and calmly and nicely tell the Board of Finance you pay taxes and do not want and cannot afford another tax increase in Colchester CT this year, thank you, plain and simple. If you are silent, the Town of Colchester CT will raise our taxes by 1.8 mils to 30 mils, a 3% tax on everything taxable we own. Compounded, that means the local municiplaity will own all our net worth in less than 20 years unless our income and assets are increasing in value by more than 3% a year. Are they? Look at your savings account! Do you add $6000 every year and earn at least 3% interest? If not your are losing net worth.

Please, be responsible and go speak your mind and politely tell our leaders they are spending our money and if they do so, we expect them to do so judiciously and frugally0.

The $50 million 1,000+ town employees have to spend every year to keep our 5600 households safe and our 2900 public school children educated is quite enough, thank you. The town employees need to live within our means and taxpayers' ability to pay.
