That's right keep taxing us, we love it!! It's bad enough that the mill rate in East Haddam will be going up over 6 mills!! Hold onto your hats because it is going to get much, much worst!!!

I like the Gov's proposal because most of the costs incurred in Tax Collector offices for staff and insurance are for handling tax bills under $300, yes, that is true. Tax Offices can cost a municipality a low of $100,000 for salaries, healthcare, benefits, electricitym, office supplies, and overhead to over $1.2 million to staff, run the office, and pay benefits etc. With over 2 vehicles per household, most towns have people paying miniscule tax bills on older vehicles that require just as much accounting and handling as property tax bills on houses and personal property that have avearge amounts of $6000, whereas the average used car might be taxed at $300 a year. Even delinquencies are often for pro rates that were never properly recorded as who has time to stand in line to get rid of paperwork for a junked vehicle? Why not just eliminate the MV taxes as proposed? The increase in other mil rates will cover the "losses" and even add to the coffers.
