Hey bubette what wine list were you looking at I didnt see a HOUSE wine above $5.75. Maybe you need to spend $7.50 on a pair of reading glasses !!!!!!!!!! or maybe you should have asked to speak to the owner and air your concers rather than bashing the place behind a false identity.

my family dined here about a week after it opened and we were pleased w/the atmosphere, and the food was good the service needs a little help but that will come in time as the hone their skills. i would highly recommend this place to friends and family. NOW if they would only serve breakfast at least on weekends they'd really have something. finally something other than pizza to choose from :)

There is nothing wrong with my reading glasses, nor those of my spouse who ordered a pulled pork sandwich that had about 2 oz of pork and a tiny dollup of cole slaw. The sandwich was ice cold and it was supposed to come with french fries...There were so few fries, that our reaction was one to wonder as to whom ate half the fries? We questioned the bartender about the price of the wine. Knowing our discontent, she should have brought over the owner

Ricky Foster....The house wine is $7.50....Ernie does this to keep the rednecks in Camo hats out of the place...I guess he didn't figure out that most of Moodus IS rednecks in Camo hats, and that just covers the wives.$28 steaks, portion control, bad bartenders, I guess the operation of this place is based on the enormous success demonstrated by the place this guy owns in East Hampton. As far as being anonymous, anytime you wanna meet, let me know!

It is disgusting to me that people would go to a restaurant, barely opened for 2 weeks and trash it in an open forum...especially in these economic times. They (like most small businesses) need a few months to work out the kinks. I have enjoyed both my meals there and appreciate a kid friendly atmosphere where I can bring my kids. Be patient! If you truly think that is all Moodus is-then please go somewhere else. I love my town and I am proud to support local businesses.@Bubette: maybe you should find ways to help the local business and talk to the owner yourself-stop whining and be content to eat pizza forever if that is your attitude. Good Luck Hilltop BBQ-you have fans out there!! Thank you for being brave enough to open a restaurant and make an investment in Moodus.

I don't want to bash this place but our meal wasn't great, and I am being kind. I will give it one more try. The service stinks.

At least with the wine prices high, maybe they can keep the white trash over at 2 Doors.

I know it's a drive but I much prefer to drive to Manchester and eat at Smokey Bones. There you get a hearty portion of wonderful, awesome bbq!!! Hilltop is serving very skimpy portions. Also, the service sucks!

Hey Ernie, from looks of you it appears you like to eat pretty hearty. How about the rest of us? Hearty up the portions will ya buddy. LOL!

hey Melissa have fun driving to smokey bones I tried going there the other night. there out of business. maybe it was those "hearty portions". we drive to hilltop from glastonbury and it is worth the drive. the service could use some work but we talked to the owners and and they assured us that they were working on it. maybe you should talk to the owners yourself rather than hiding behind script. they really do seem to care.

Why are some folks being so darn protective of Hilltop bbq and Steakhouse? Give me a break! I wasn't very impressed and don't feel bad saying so. I hope it gets better, it would be great to have a good place to eat in this town. God knows there is nothing else here.

Some of the glowing comments are really over the top! Give me a break!!

The glowing reviews are usually written by employees, owners, or friends. Interesting comments about "white Trash" from people who are what??? Labelling people with a name like that just shows the world the truth about your lack of character. So I should pay more money just so I can hang out with Bigots? This isn't Ernies first go. Round in the Restaurant business. As far as giving him "months" to work the bugs out...either your qualified torun a restaurant or not! I stopped going to his bar on Rt 66 because he treated people like crap, and he thumbed his nose at the NO Smoking Law. La Vita has good food, diverse clientle and a glass of wine is 5 bucks. Drinks are generous and service is consistent. The idea of new restaurants is great, but I won't support crappy food and expensive drinks just Ernie can get OJT. Ricky Foster, if you drive from Glastonbury to eat at Hilltop, you need to get a life!

Sounds like you're the real estate agent who sold this place to Ernie...I WENT THERE FOR LUNCH LONG AFTER THEY WERE OPEN, WAS SERVED A COLD SANDWICH WITH COLD FRIES. I ATE AT THE BAR AND PAID $2.50 for a coke and was never offered a refill nor was I asked if I liked my food. As far as trying to tell Ernie anything,he is arrogant and doesn't want to hear any suggestions. Look at the sign outside of the front door, just to the left of the door...kinda tells you where Ernies heart is!

Southbound Speeder, Haven't yet had a chance to visit Hilltop BBQ and Steakhouse. What does the sign outside of the front door say. Curious!

I plan to give the place a try, but I must say the reviews I have heard around town aren't that favorable. I honestly think most of the favorable reviews have to be coming from friends of the owners.

As for the "whitetrash" comment at 2 Doors. Well, 2 Doors gets a pretty trashy crew. I would'nt go in there, drug dealers etc. I don't mean to sound snobby but facts are facts. I no longer will even go to Village Pizza late at night due to the crowd next door at 2 Doors.

Wow! I thought this was a place to blog legitimate reviews. Apparently I've stumbled onto a bunch of trash-talking high school kids who have never even been to Hilltop BBQ.
First off, I'm so glad we've got a nice, local place to go to that serves excellent food. Anyone who saw what that place used to look like knows that some serious work and dedication went into making that a beautiful restaurant inside. That was no small task.
The food my wife and I had was excellent (delicious ribs!) and the prices were reasonable. This isn't McDonald's so don't expect a $1 value meal, but it's not Morton's Steak House either, so you can eat well for a reasonable price. Definitely a high "bang for the buck" quotient here. Clearly some of the critics above are either delusional or outright liars on a smear campaign. For the record, I checked the house wines and they are NOT $7.50 as one moron suggested above: they are $5.75, which is pretty much the going rate these days. Nothing wrong with that.
The service was a tad slow, but I'm sure once the crew is better trained and gets a little more experience, that will improve. Anyone with any common sense and restaurant experience knows that any independent, non-chain restaurant takes a little while to get the staff up to speed. I just used the little extra time to enjoy a frosty beer and watch the many large screen, hi-def TVs around the place.
My wife and I gave the place "two thumbs up". And it sure is refreshing to have another choice besides pizza around here.
