Schools are looking at big teacher cuts becuse the state is near bankrupt. There are people that have been on unemployment over a year and a half now. And the Senate wants to extend benefits? Since when has unemployment insurance been considered long term income. There is no requirement at all to look for work or any accountability to show these folks are even looking for jobs. There 1800 help wanted ads in the Times Union. All the Stewart's shops are hiring. I'm sorry but welfare is the long term program for the hopelessly unemployed. I may not be so down on the subject if there was some requirement to at least look for work.

With all the unimployed you would think these jobs would fill?
The US Census Bureau says it's still hiring for a variety of positions in the Albany Census Office, which includes Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer and Schenectady counties.
Positions start at $15 an hour, and applications are immediately available.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a valid Social Security number, be able to pass a background check and take a 30-minute, multiple-choice basic employment test that measures knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform a variety of census jobs.
