Sounds like one of those areas where people shouldn't be permitted to walk. Is there a barricade by the rope?

Sounds like the park should be paved over and something else should be built there. Way to many accidents.

These things make it more exciting to go to stupid old Adventureland.
It's like "Oh, how was Adventureland, same old rides?"
"Yeah, same old rides, but I saw this skeleton thing fall on a kid!"
"Oh cool! I should have went!"
Or "Darn, I was gonna go to Adventureland once but passed... turns out that was the night some dudes hand got mangled on the tobbaggan ride!"

I've seen that skeleton. It rides by the haunted house. I think it rides right over the walkway where the people pass near the rock climbing wall.

Hmmm, looks like their 'head of security and safety' needs a little more training in the safety area. A moving display over a walkway? That's trouble looking for a victim. That's one tough kid.

Well at least one good thing has come out of the gas price crisis! That skeleton normally would have ben driving an SUV, but switched to a bicycle to save on gas

The skeleton goes from side to side, I haven't seen it work recently- the whole haunted house is really lacking these days.

As far as the other two accidents-

The kid who got run over by the roller coaster was not actively following the saftey instructions of his job. This is highly unusual for a 16/17 year old now isn't it?

As for the woman (45) who was tossed out a ride onto her car- this was an unusual and frightening case. This woman was mentally handicapped and wriggled herself free from the restraints on the ride (possibly out of fear or discomfort).

That one to me is far more troubling. It is difficult for park employees to make judgement calls about their guests, but whoever was escorting this woman onto the ride made a seriously bad judgement call.

Adventureland does consitently try- and to be honest their track record isn't that bad compared to the amount of people they see Annually.
However the issues they have had are kind of preventable with some maintenence and better employee training/selection.

Note to Newsday:

East Farmingdale is part of the town of Babylon, and is located in Suffolk County, not Nassau as list on the home page of the web site.

There is a typo in the article. It should read "Girl is excited at Adventureland in East Farmingdale" - THAT would have been news, since nobody has been thrilled there since 1979.
