Easier to burn a failing business down and collect the insurance than it is to sell it in this economy. Sounds fishy to me.

Last week there was a fire at a duck farm out east. The police said they suspect fowl play.

When I drove down Sunrise highway this morning, and saw all the smoke, I first thought that it was a plane crash. Glad it wasn't. Also glad to hear that despite all of the damage, there were no injuries.

As to the cause, well, this should be interesting. There were people there when it started. I doubt they had anything to do with it - too obvious. But whatever it was, it gutted that building. Sure hope the arson squad does a thorough job and gets to the bottom of this.

And thanks to all the firefighters who helped keep it under control and everyone else safe - well done!(err, no pun intended...)

You sure are.

On another note, the smoke over the SS was pitch black, covered most of the sky as I drove through on the SS by 109. I was holy S!%$#.

Hey liner and oh well - my bad!

I guess the point I should have made is that Newsday should not be using terminology that most readers don't use. I think "burning fire" or "active fire" is more descriptive for the masses.

Oh and liner - in FDNY they all take turns cooking and they all go to the fires. Here is picture of my dad carrying a guy out of a building

Yes the job has changed...when the picture was taken the only muzzies anyone knew about here were on the big screen in Lawrence of Arabia.

My shorts never get bunched!
I'm not FD, but I've always heard the term "working fire" to describe one that is well along when the first unit arrives.
At any rate, you should be proud of your dad. Hopefully he's still around, so say thanks to him next time you see him.
