also, after reading other comments above. When we went there it was clean and that young girl did help us but she was really nice. I guess it was just for show. Our puppy is very social and happy. I don't think he was misstreated himself. I'm really upset about this. I would never go back there and will tell anyone I know about it.

Did they know you were coming? If so, that explains why it was clean. I have heard of the place having great conditions as long as they know there are visitors coming. If you just try to stop by, they try to stop you so you cannot see the real deal.

40 other groups in our 5th Annual
Puppy Mill Awareness Day!

Puppy Mill Awareness Day (PMAD) is held every September in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, known as "The Puppy Mill Capital of the East Coast." Lancaster has more puppy mills per capita than any other county in the United States.

Puppy mills are filthy, overcrowded, breeding facilities that mass produce puppies for sale. There are thousands of puppy mills across the country, producing over 500,000 puppies per year. These facilities, most of which are inspected and licensed by the USDA are notorious for their filthy, overcrowded conditions and the unhealthy dogs they produce.

What: Puppy Mill Awareness Day 2008 When: Saturday, Sep 20 '08
Time: 11am-5pm
Where: Intercourse Comm Park At the corner of Old Philadelphia Pike
and Royal Circle. 500 feet east of Intercourse, PA

We are very happy with our new puppy and would buy from there again.
I was just there yesterday and they were NOT the conditions I saw at all. Joyce was very nasty and didn't care about any of the puppies at all. There were so many adult dogs walking around that didn't even know which puppies belonged to them. What a sad sad place. These people should be locked in a cage and starved like they do to those dogs!

Those type of people should be forced to live the same way they make their animals live. maybe this kind of stuff would stop if we where a bit harder on them.
If you ever watch Animal Cops on tv, you can see that some of these people do live the way the pets do. Their homes are filled with feces, filth, bugs, etc. They dont care about themselves, they dont care about anyone or anything eles. These people need to be put in jail, and fined a huge fine., not released back into society to do it again. Before you purchase a pet from a so called breeder, do your homework, look at the home, look at the dogs living space, check with the bbb, ask around.
If things look suspicious dont purchase the pet, report the breeder to the police. Maybe you can save the poor animals from any more harm.

I dont know what to do about getting your money back, but I would not put a deposit down on anything without researching first. If you did not pay cash, you can probably go to your bank and dispute the payment.

We just bought a puggle from Joyce yesterday without doing the proper research beforehand. After reading all this we are very concerned. We are bringing the puppy to the vet today to check him out (he does have a bit of a cough and is sneezing occasionally. However, all our friends (some of whom are dog owners) assure us that the puppy is acting completely normal. Does anyone have any advice? We love our puppy and don't want to bring him back to Joyce after hearing about all these awful conditions, but we also can't afford thousands of dollars of vet bills. Any advice would be helpful! Thank you.

Unfortunately sounds like you're stuck but hopefully your pup will be healthy. Can't Monday morning quarterback on what you should have done, e.g. research before buying a puppy from Joyce Stoltzfus.

You might want to look into pet insurance because if a problem does develop, insurance will help pay the bills.

Lesson for all...do your homework before buying a puppy. Once you bring that puppy home, the commitment begins and of course you fall in love with it immediately.

Good luck to you Jack and hope pup is ok.

in sept. i wrote in to tell you all about my puppy. he had fleas, worms and was mentally challenged but we loved him. well we had to put him to sleep. he was 3.i will never forgive joyce and her husband and whom ever else runs this puppy mill. the vet said he was born with a problem in his back. she could do xrays but that would be 400 dolloars, just to find out what it was. then she said he could be sent away out of state for surgery. the humane thing to do was to put him down. i was devastated and so were my kids. how dare this women make a decision like this. we miss you boomer and love you . this women should not be able to sell animals, she is heartless. dont by puppies from cc pets in lancaster.

BEWARE of CC Pets in Peach Bottom, PA......
We purchased a puppy from CC Pets LLC back before Christmas for our daughter. She wanted a Morkie (Maltese and Yorkie mix). We saw an ad in the newspaper for Morkies, so we called the number. The lady who answered said her name was Joyce, told us that they had Morkie puppies available and that they were approximately 8-weeks-old. My daughter was thrilled. We took the hour drive to CC Pets in Peach Bottom, PA and my daughter picked out her Morkie (from about 5 puppies that were handed to us and we were told that they were all Morkies). On the way home from CC Pets, we stopped off at the pet store to get some puppy food. While we were in the store a person said to us, "Aww, what a cute Shih Tzu puppy you have." We said, "No, she is a Morkie." The lady then said, "I am a vet and I can tell you that this puppy is a shih tzu or at least a shih tzu mix." We didn't really give it much thought at the time. Later when we had to take the puppy to the vet for a check up, the vet also said that she is a Shih Tzu puppy or a Shih Tzu mix. So I tried to contact Joyce at CC Pets, but I did not hear back from her. Finally she sent me an email and asked me to send her pictures of the puppy in question. I sent her a total of 5 pictures. After 2 months and several attemps to reach her, we finally were able to get a hold of Joyce. She said, based on the pictures, she THINKS the puppy may be a Shih-poo (Shih Tzu / poodle mix), but she was not sure. I asked her what happened to the fact that we requested a Morkie. She did not really have a reply. Our paperwork says that the Breeder was named: Jacob Beiler, but Joyce told me outright that Jacob Beiler does not even have Shih Tzu dogs that he breeds.

So I ask all of you, how can my puppy have come from Jacob Beiler and Joyce NOW tell me that she THINKS it is a Shih-poo, when Jacob Beiler does not even breed Shih Tzu dogs???

We are still going back and forth with Joyce on how to resolve this issue. Her solution at this point, is for us to return the dog to her and she will give us a refund. But, how do I take the puppy away from my daughter at this point? First off, it was a Christmas present and second, she has bonded with the puppy.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where I should go from here? Joyce is not willing to negotiate my solution to the problem (which is: since she cannot even verify the correct breed of dog that she sold us, we feel that she should at least be willing to refund half of our money that she charged us for a Morkie, since she did not sell us a Morkie.) I think that is fair. She just keeps coming back with: "You will just have to bring the dog back to me and I will give you your money back." To me, that is not a solution at this point!!!

Any help here would be greatly appreciated!!!

Lisa,
Have you called her to try and rectify the problem? If she refuses, report her as I posted in previous postings. Especially get on www.nppwatch.com and it will tell you what to do if your dog is sick.....they are a terrific group that is trying to shut down all puppy mills.

Good luck!

I know this doesn't help much with the resolution of your problem with that woman, and you probably spent a good deal of money, but just think - you saved that dog from that horrible place. It might turn out to the be the greatest dog and a great friend. My friend had a Shih tzu named Zeke and he was the coolest dog. She had him buzzed in the summer so he'd be cooler. I hope you decide to at least keep the dog.

I've been reading these posts a lot and I just can't believe that all puppy mills can't be STOPPED. It's so horrendous! Thank goodness there are organizations out there working to put an end to them all.

I wish good luck to you in getting this resolved.

Bottom line is ---- people have to stop buying from these mills. That is the only way they will go out of business! And don't buy from the internet or pet stores...they get their dogs from mills. And the internet ads are many times "fronts" for mills even though they look like single breeders...uh, uh...not so, they lie.

Rescue, rescue, rescue!!!! And lately? Many of the puppies in rescue were puppy mill dogs that because of the new regulations the kennels were shut down or voluntarily gave up their license. So rescue groups take them.

With a good rescue group, the dogs are vet checked, problems corrected/treated and temperament tested. So you won't have the heartache of buying a puppy from one of these mills and ending up with a very sick animal and the best part is, you're doing a good thing.... Rescuing a beautiful furry creature from life behind bars who is always hoping for a home....

8 million dogs need rescuing, surely we can open our hearts to them!!!!

How do you find a reputable breeder if you can't use the internet to find animals? Don't the single breeders have to advertise too? Just asking questions for information.
