Hi Terry, I'm happy to use the first definition from Merriam Websters dictionary: Socialism: Any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods.

I can appreciate the sentiment behind the ideals of increased governmental control of various segments of our society. Sadly I have seen enough of this world to understand that greed is the best motivator of man. We can all go over some gross examples of greed run amok but on a more individual level it is really just the proverbial carrot on a stick that keeps most of us working just a little harder, a little smarter so that we can better our lot in life. Handing someone that carrot (or making it unobtainable)only discourages people from being more productive.

Here in VT, between the gross property tax scheme of acts 60 & 68, high sales and income taxes along with a heavy-handed regulatory apparatus and anti business legislature there is little incentive for entrepreneurs to take risks and a lot of incentive for our educated young people to seek success elsewhere.

Maggie may have said that 30 years ago but the premise hasn't changed. The more people become dependent on government the less incentive they have to be productive on an economic level. The less incentive people have to work hard, the poorer we all (collectively) become. When you decrease number the people that generate income for the government all the while increasing the number of people dependent on the government, eventually you run out of money.

What does all this have to do with the fine the state levied on Mt Snow? The combined cost of the fine and court costs ($200,000) taken from mount snow does not mean that Tim Boyd is going to take one less vacation or keep his car longer. It will likely be that much less they invest into the property and/or pay a couple workers.

Lets hope ANR does the same for that serious fiasco when the 12 tribes tore down Oonas and the town of Rockingham turned a very blind eye to that while it was going on despite having been warned about all the issues.
A few heads should roll over that lack of accountability
Peak Resorts Hidden Vally Mo just exspanded with 2 million in exspansion. They installed new lifts and added on to their lodge. They over ordered the paint they used to cover the towers so they dumped the remains. They have been dumping the remains of all of the hundreds of gallons of left over paint directly into the ground on their site..Talk about shitting in your own nest.Ironically..This location that is the home of the Boyds in Mo is right next to the infamous removed town of Times Beach. Sorry to read that VT now has this environmental vampire in their community.
