Well here we go again - with the poor decision make to close the Nelson Memorial Library which was the only handicapped library in Town which
brought upon the Town - the Architectural Access Board - requiring the Town to come up with a plan to correct the problem. So What is the plan go to the Townspeople and ask for $172,000.00 to make
the Center Library somewhat ADA compliant and complete historical restorations and At a time when the Townpeople have little extra change in their pockets.
If they had kept Nelson Memorial Library open the cost out of the Center Library Budget was for two librarians a total of 16 hours per week and the cost of books, which in the past few years were few and far between.
Maintenance of the Building and Park comes under the Nelson Memorial Park & Library budget which is
around $38,000.00 a year. Short money in these bad times.
So the Friends of Nelson Library have kept the Library open and are doing a great job, all volunteers but since we are not connected to the Main Library in Town our ADA compliance doesn't count, such a shame.
The Powers to be re-thought the closing of Nelson Library now look what we have - a mess that will cost $$$$$$$ much money that we as a Town we don't havae.
