My dogs always slept with me, as long as I kept them clean and smelling good. I could have got them their own beds, but they were like my children.I see nothing wrong with dogs sleeping with their mommies and daddies...

I have no problem letting pets sleep in bed with me. I have had 2 occasions when they weren't allowed- one cat I rescued from a shelter wasn't declawed and would scratch at your leg if it came near her when you were sleeping. She wasn't allowed in bed after that. After I had my son we had a one bedroom apartment- so (our new cat) wasn't allowed in the room at night until we got a bigger place. Now he sleeps in our bed- but he's usually up all night playing with his cattoys anyway..

Yeah and I am sure your dog got fleas from you |

Especially since you could not get a man into your bed Edy |

I have 2 8 month Westies...they are my children...they sleep in my queen size bed, and I spoil them rotten, but they are both very friendly and adorable...if you think your dog is "just" a dog, give him up to give him the love he deserves, and if you think this way, you should be left alone for the rest of your life, and not be afforded the privledge of having a dog,(or a cat). |

As the mother of 2 Westies, I agree with you...they are my children. |

I to have two West Highland Terriers named Joey and Hannah that do sleep with me. I would have it no other way because there is nothing as great as when you wake up and one of the dogs is lying on top of your head and the other is lying in your arms. I actually feel sorry for the two dogs in the story Buddy and Ashley because they are being treated as a "thing" and not as a living being in need of love and attention. Believe me every night these dogs need my attention either to let the outside or for water or just plain comfort. If you wanted to treat them as second citizens and not human like why did she give them human names. It alway's upsets me to hear of stories where pets have either been abused or neglected. Putting dogs down in a basement away from the family is neglectful. Maybe this woman does not see these dogs as part of her family and that to me is very sad.

You are a FOOL!!! |

Guido, it sound's like you were dumped by a woman for a dog. You have a little to much anger toward's women that happen to love their dog. I have had boyfriend that were very jealous of my dog. Which I find to be very sad and pathetic. |

TO: ALL LADIES & GENTLEMEN WHO RESPONDED TO GWIDO (I PURPOSELY MISSPELLED HIS NAME)
LIFE'S TOO SHORT TO WASTE OUR TIME ON LOST CAUSES LIKE "GWIDO" HE OBVIOUSLY NEEDS MORE HELP THAN EVEN THE MOST EXPERIENCED PSYCHIATRISTS COULD GIVE HIM; HE'S WORTHY OF OUR COMBINED PITY BECAUSE HE WILL NEVER EXPERIENCE THE HAPPINESS, JOY AND LAUGHTER THAT OUR CANINE CHILDREN GIVE US EVERY DAY!!! |

To: All Ladies & Gentlemen who responded to "Gwido"(I purposely misspelled his name)
Life's too short & precious to be wasted on lost causes like "Gwido". Actually, he's worthy of our combined pity because he will never, ever experience the happiness, joy & laughter which our canine children bestow on us every day!!! |

my pets are members of my family too but they cant share the bed with us, theyre too big, they get locked out of the bedroom at night and are forced to sleep in the air conditioned living room on the thick plush couch.
you were expecting some redneck joke about animals from me,, admit it. |

It's a matter of preference. I'm against it. Pets, even those most loved, should have their own beds. One thing I wouldn't do is keep them in the basement. To me, that's cruel and unnecessary. Free reign of the house is fine, but don't want them and whatever critters are attached to them sleeping alongside my kids.

I've been a pet professional for more than 8 years.
I had a small dog who slept at the foot of the bed or on his dog bed in the summer and on our bed in winter. Sometimes he was under the covers if it was cold. I had a big dog who slept on the bed until she just got too big, then she moved to her dog bed. We had 3 dogs and between 3-5 cats and 3 dog beds on the floor. Some cats would sleep on the bed cuddled right up next to the dogs and some would sleep on the dog beds with the dogs. Over the years the combinations were ever evolving. Dogs are "pack" animals. They like to be with their pack. You are part of their pack. If you have your dog sleep in the garage or basement they are going to be much more anxious and unhealthy. If you have a dog sleeping in a crate in the living room or kitchen or something like that - try letting them sleep in your bedroom for a week. You'll find that they are less anxious during the day. I can give you tips on making it work, but this forum doesn't have enough room to explain the whole process. Check my website http://PetFoodDog.com J |
