I have had the teacher in the past and all I know is that there was always something wrong with that guy. He was charged with DUI in 1999 and 2000. He and the stundent always seemed to be together, if it was band, chorus or drama she was close to him. I actually was not shocked when i heard the news I think he should be locked up, if he ever teaches again pigs will fly.

Got this from the worcester t&g

I was taught by Mr. Gilman from 2005 to 2008 and nobody suspected that he was a pedophile or would harm anyone. He seemed to be a pretty good guy. The rumor in the Leicester High School that I heard was that he had allegedly molested one of his female students. Of course I'm concerned about his past students as well as the supposed victim but I was rather disturbed by the way the school authorities handled the situation. I'm not exactly sure how some kids knew about the allegations. None of the teachers mentioned it and when our classroom started discussing it, the vice principal (Mr. Sharon) pulled my teacher out of the room for a minute and when my teacher came back in, he threatened gossiping kids with a trip to the office. Later I heard that if they took you to the office, you got a suspension. I hate gossip but this isn't the fault of the student body. Rather, it is the administration's fault; if everyone was properly informed, the gossip wouldn't necessarily be any more harmful than the average crap. Plus, we are all his former students... what if one or two of US has been keeping a secret?! Idiots...

and this also:

As a parent of a child in the Leicester Middle School I am outraged by the administrations decision to punish children for discussing amongst themselves what transpired in the school that day. The Leicester Police enter the school, arrest, handcuff and escort a teacher off public property during school hours and the kids are suppose to act like nothing happened and if they do discuss it, they could possibly get suspended! To add to insult, as a parent, I found out about the arrest and possible allegations from my children.'How was your day today', I normally ask my children during dinner,'anything special happen in school today?''Oh, nothing out of the ordinary' is the response,'except my music was teacher arrested, handcuffed and carried out of the school by police for being a potential child molester!' Thank you school administrators for the respect of informing parents and I'm glad to know that I can count on being notified by your automatic phone messages on important matters, when they arise.

What is a washed out hippie? as this writer seems to think:

I'm a freshman at Leicester High this year. I've had Mr. Gilman as a music teacher for 6 7 and 8th grade. He always seemed strange to me. He clearly was a washed out hippie, but many students would joke about how he gave 'extra attention' to female students. He was always hugging them, and would have pictures of students as the background of his computer. However, I as many others never thought too much of it because he just seemed like a flirt; everyone has had a teacher like that. But, he was much more than just a flirt.

I truly believe this man is a good teacher, otherwise this school system would not have kept him employed as long as they have.
The world is full of people with problems. We should focus on insuring he gets help. We all deserve that as a first step. Blowing things out of proportion through wisper down the lane is not a cure. Find a way to heal him and have his family and friends support guide his way. Teach him our rules for this society. Help him leave his world so he can fit into ours.

I am not going to say whether or not he did it. I do not know the whole story. But I am more shocked that parents who went to Leicester Public Schools are so shocked by something like this happening. Over the years Leicester has had so many questionable teachers. Unfortunately this town has become very good about sweeping this type of thing under the rug.

I have a young child in the Middle School and she has been told for the last 3 years that she is not to be in a room alone with that man. He shows to much affection to the girls and I am sorry but in this day in age the rule of thumb is "HANDS OFF". I do not know if he did it or not but I can not understand why he would give a 12 year old a cell phone and text back and forth. If he did not do exactly what she says he did then there was some other expectation.

The town needs to take responsibilty also, if they are going to allow one music teacher to have an affair with a student and try to keep it hush hush then what type of road are they paving.
