Just where did the Mercyhurst student receive this line of 35,000 pieces of data from? This sets a scary precedent wnem law abiding citizens are scrutinized. These things have always gone of in more devious directions as history has shown. Taking notice of the rural locations of those involved. Just what impact have the local economic situations in these areas had on these people that are named in the ring? Could the rural economic situation be compared to what has happened in the urban cores of our cities? Even though this has brought down a meth ring which is not a bad thing. Maybe it is time to look close at the wider picture? This may be worth looking into.

Nice job, Mr. Atty-Gen. It only took you 14 years to get this important job done...and you still needed the help of college geeks. You and your various deputies got your faces on the news, though - GOOD JOB! What are you going to do with your next 14 years?...bust some moonshiners? Maybe Edinboro students can help you with that!

What happened to earning an education? I don't consider this learning. There should be a work force for this type of activity not students short changing their education.

First I think that it is great that they got busted..

But now anytime I buy a cold medicine from the Pharmacy, all my information is sent to college students. They take down your Drivers license number. This is how they get there address and anything else they need to look up someone, or their family!

HIPPA WHAT?????

This meth lab has been around for ever. Everyone new about it, event he police. It was there when I was in school 15 years ago. They didn't do anything because the wanted to wait and see if there was a "bigger fish" to catch...

Way to go AG office... when are you going to investigate the Privacy violations from the college geeks..

The students are grad student interns getting their Masters degrees from in the Mercyhurst intelligence studies program.

"Before I had the students, I had task force police officers doing this work and being paid out of the attorney general's budget," he said. "Police officers and agents are investigators; student interns skilled in analysis can do this kind of work much faster, not to mention save money for the taxpayers of Pennsylvania."
Dennis Tobin - Director, Office of Attorney General

Maybe do some fact checking before you sound like the ignorant fool that you have become.

Again there is education and there is education-its not about tax dollars nor analysis. There are correct avenues for this police work not "students".

So the last 14 years were spent wasting tax payers time. Personally I really don't want any student looking up my history. Your telling me that with all the technology that this country has we can't come up with a computer system that would bring up repeat buyers. That instead students have to wast time to go through 35,000 lines. 14 years uhh so what was the students grades on this. If you ask me you just hand fed a defense. GREAT JOB!

A trained monkey can sort and file. Skilled in analysis? C'mon - This is the same Tobin who, when with the Erie PD, was giving a news briefing about the victim of an accident who lost an arm or a leg (I forget which) and stated " the man's severed (pronounced severe with a "d") leg was found across the street. That was right after his wife left him and she couldn't write his spiels any more.

I think this would be a great project for Law Students. Look at the publicity the other college is recieving. Do we not have the right to a fair trial. Give these INNOCENT until proven guilty people a chance to a fair trial and a resource to a lab for a true analisis. My how amounts have changed.

Everyone has always been free to purchase cold remedies not containing pseudoephedrine and keep their info to themselves.
Pseudoephedrine contained in example Sudifed is also prescribed by physicians for illnesses other than making meth so our privacy is invaded again. What are you saying? BE afraid to buy sudafed so you don't end up on a list. There goes another one of our rights.

"Rave" Just how old are you anyway. You talk alot of smack! Just because there is another way does not mean I should have to use it. I have a certain brand of cold medicine I like to use that does require using my ID. However, at no point was I EVER told that some college student can get to my identity! Ya know I hope you go buy some sudafed, so you have to use your Drivers License or State ID, and I hope that someone who is only using the information for a project (for law enforcement or not) decides do steal your identity, and ruins your credit. Get real will ya...

I'm puzzled. If those involved are innocent, then why are they still at large?? Or is that the Attorney Generals fault by not acting quickly enough?

Facts be known the original 4 that where charged in December of 2007. 3 where arrested and jailed. BONDs where set and charges where dropped and 2of those where James Frey and Patty Frey. If these people are so bad why was this? Let me guess PUBLICITY! Maybe. Wanting to ruin peoples lives. See the Erie Times I believe the Date was Dec. 7. Correct me if I am wrong. They didn't run. The new charges are so far off what is really true what choice have they given them. Without a decent defense lawyer, these people will be thrown in prison for something they haven't done. Feb 26,2008. was the date charges where dropped on 3 0f them. If the evidence is ever to come out what is really true. The public will be outraged.
