Torture death shocks Ill. town

Banished to the basement, the 29-year-old mother with a childlike mind and another baby on the way had little more than a thin rug and a mattress to call her own on the chilly concrete floor.

This is just so malicious and inhumane! I can't believe that no one did anything to advocate for this victim, to prevent her from becoming a victim and to ensure her safety.

It's so sad that typically when a person turns 18 year of age, they are just released from structured care and oversight.

Everyone failed this young lady. It is heartbreaking what she had to endure!

The people responsible for these heinous acts (to include the teenagers) should be held fully accountable with no sympathy or deals.

Unfathomable! If this were an animal, PETA would have the news spread worldwide, with movie stars and the like outraged. These individuals should be prosceuted (maybe persecuted) to the fullest with no plea bargaining or dropped charges. God Bless the poor soul.

I really wish the punishment could fit the crime, and those horrid barely human scum should be put in the same basement. I for one would love to shoot each and every one of them with a pellet rifle, burn them, and torture them. After so much time, starve some guard dogs for weeks, strip all of them down, tied to posts, pour bacon grease on them and turn the dogs lose. They would be ripped to shreds. Put it all on You Tube.

It does appear that it is a "mug shot" of Dorothy Dixon; however, people shouldn't assume that she was a criminal or that she had a criminal record.

Many people that are mentally challenged are turned out onto the streets upon reaching the age of majority. Often times, police pick them up as vagrants especially on loitering charges when they receive complaints....heck, even if no one complains. Then again there are some officers that will pick them up and put them in jail overnight, to keep them from a certain death due to the elements (especially in the winter). The bottom line is we all failed this woman and her child. Hopefully, her child will be provided for in a better way than was for Ms. Dixon.

We shouldn't jump to conclusions as to why it's her "mug shot" provided to identify the victim. The point being, she is a victim! We should allow Ms. Dorothy Dixon her dignity--especially since she wasn't allowed it during her lifetime!

confused, if she has been arrested, tht would have justified her treatment? And though i can understand and empathize with vengeful fantasies, we don't need to be brutal with the perpetrators. that just gives us a society like, well, like the people who did this heinous act of Abu Graib. it doen's make things better, on any level. where was this woman's case worker? How many other cases does this worker have?

The woman was childlike! For Christ's sakes some of you people just make me want to scream. Black, white or green these animals should get the death penalty.

Her one year old child was also abused and only weighed 15 lbs.
