If Walmart wants to come to Florissant, we can't stop them.
But under NO circumstances should we provide them any sort of tax incentives or "special deals" that we cannot or would not provide to every single business that asks.
Why give wealthy corporations any kind of break?
Most small businesses that come to Florissant have to jump through hoops just to get a permit to do business and they get no special deals or tax break incentives.
When are we going to wake up to the fact that tax breaks to wealthy corporation do not create jobs that will help bring back the strength of the middle class?
We talk about how poor people need to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps" then we give people with numerous pairs of boots silver and gold buckles for their straps.

other businesses rape with prices but yet get their stuff from the same people, other businesses work you like a dog but only pay minimal wages with no insurance at all , small buisness is not going to keep this town growing unless taxes are increased, property, sales, buisiness, and so forth, so where will the money come from your pocket. its your money

For those of you who believe Wal-Mart will bring sales taxes, have you forgotten that Florissant is a "pool city". It doesn't get to keep the sales tax it generates. The tax goes to a pool that is divided among all the pool cities.

As for property taxes, Stan Kroenke (it's his company, THF, that builds the stores) has yet to build a Wal-Mart in St. Louis that he did not get tax breaks for.

And as for construction jobs, when the Wal-Mart in St. Charles was renovated, they brought in construction workers from Arkansas. They did not use local labor even with the high unemployment.

Wal-Mart is never good for a community. I hope P&Z turns them down.
