You're correct. Oregon is a redneck state. It usually has the country's highest unemployment state AND the highest gasoline prices.

Oregon would, if it made historical sense, to fly the Confederate Flag. This lack of education, lack of civilization coupled with a lack of worth ethic makes Oregon a backwater for business and commerce.

Oregonians are the laziest people I have ever met. They say they're into 'quality of life' but that only means they will refuse to work a full day so that they can go home and sit in their houses and play videogames or watch TV.

There is nothing to do in Oregon for 9 months of the year because the weather is horrendous. Outside of Portland proper, there are no good restaurants (middling ones but not good ones), shopping only at outlet and strip malls, no entertainment, no art, no culture...nothing.

Oregon is a hick, rural, southern state but without the sunshine and convivial atmosphere. It is a very cold, unfriendly state.

We should sell it in exchange for, say, the Bahamas.

You're an expert on Oregon because you've lived for 60 years in Medford? Medford is a peanut of a town.

I do, however, agree with you about being trapped. Oregon is a state that will trap you. It will create depression, sap your energy, kill your optimism and make you physically sick.

"create depression"? Yes, being surrounded by self-proclaimed pseudo-intellectuals
"sap your energy"? Yes, especially if you hold a real job
"kill your optimism"? Yes, Sleepy Ted got re-elected
"make you physically sick"? So, don't frequent the bath houses
FYI:
While I admit to calling Medford my home, I make at least two international trips a year. So impress me with your worldy knowledge.

It's ok to be a peanut of a town although, given that Oregon has so few people in it that Medford qualifies as a major metropolitan hub, Medford is probably more accurately likened to a cashew.

I do not have to impress you with worldly knowledge. I'm just warning those who might be considering a permanent move to Oregon that the state is a lousy place to live.

It may be green but it's mostly muddy, cold and damp. It may have some nice days but it's mostly muddy, cold and damp.

It may have some polite people but it also has out of control child vandals, thuggish cops, idiotic governments and nasty minded ruralites who are deeply and offensively unfriendly.

In other words, Oregon is a lousy place to live which is why there are so few people in it and those who are in it have, for the most part, failed to make it elsewhere.

After most of the people who hate the state are allowed to leave with a big apology from Oregon promoters and a big check for the suffering, Oregon is free to wall itself off from the world.

Everyone will then be happy.

Evil Californias? In 1989, Oregon Senate Water and Land Use Committee was made up of all Californians. If they are so evil, why do they keep getting elected to high offices?

It is the luck of the draw so to speak, the less evil they are the better chance they have of winning an election. It's not about what they can do for the people anymore its about how fat they can make thier pockets and what benefits them."lesser of two evils"

Grants Pass is a nice city and getting better, but there's definitely a good ol' boy mentality, a meth and crime issue and not as much culture as some Oregon cities. Ashland is fun, but a mix of super wealthy, students and hippies. Not very affordable. Forget Medford. That's where we live and the growth is insane and housing isn't affordable. If you can stand the rain, and a larger city, Portland is the gem of the state.

Typical Oregonian commentary complete with the nasty jabs and hostile attitude. This comes complete with muddy overalls covering a, well, hefty individual.

Enjoy!

Rob: Great place to live. Only real full service city in Oregon. Has the only major league sports franchise in Oregon (The Ptld Trailblazers). Its university (of which I am an alumni) is a top notch urban university. I prefer the northwest part of town. It's a bit upper-scale, ethnically diverse (it's the only place I've found that you can get kosher food...and European delicacies...and non-fast food pizza in the entire state)...and more trendy. The zoo is fantastic, youth recreation is everywhere and the arts are adequate. The skiing is some of the best in the world and the coast (they call it "coast", not "beach") can be a bit windy and chilly...the water's friggin freezing, so if you want to swim for awhile, get a wet suit.
What you need to know, being a Californian moving north...1)The minute (or as soon as practicle)you hit Oregon, change your license plate and say you're from somewhere other than Cali. 2) People are a bit "greener" in Oregon than Cali., San Francisco and Marin County excepted. They also believe they invented recycling aluminum cans and have the best land-use system in the world. 3) Get used to eating salmon, seeing salmon, talking about salmon and wishing the salmon run would show up. It's the culture's lifes blood. 4) Immediately forget about the Spanish Mission system you learned in school and quickly bone up on Lewis and Clark stuff. 5) Be resigned to the fact that it either rains or is gray for several months. But when the sun comes out, it's beautiful!
Do these things and you'll have a great life in Oregon.
So children, in others words, don't be yourself, walk in lockstep with the Oregon hicks and you may pass for one of them. LOL.

If you wish to be yourself and tell the truth about where you are from, you're liable to get your car trashed and your house vandalized by the many, many, many out-of-control children in these here parts.

ROTFLMAO.

1984 thy name is Oregon.

Calm down, there's no need to have a stroke or to mangle the language so or to be profane. You are providing yet another look into the soul of the typical Oregonian....depressed, repressed and with quite an inferiority complex. That soul expresses itself in anger and rage and with great hostility towards all.

Unlike most people, you cannot deal with justified and well supported criticism. Why is that? You really should develop more faith in yourself and in Oregon if you are going to defend its honor!

Thank you so much for providing such a clear image of the typical Oregonian. I could hardly do as well myself.

Misery who came to Oregon, you are a true ass and if you don't like it here take the next flight out of portland to where ever you want to live,it can't cost that much to move. You said yourself the company you work for moved you here, there must of been a financal carrot they dangled in front of your nose so you must have the means. It's true you have the right to say what you want but i bet you are just here to take whatever you can take without giving back to this state like a true Oregonian would (Oregonian=born here).Just because you move here does not in any way make you a Oregonian.Go ahead and attack my comment i no more value your opinion as the cow crap i wash off my boots everyday.
