Now that I've ready EP Business Journal bulletin I believe the Eagles have won. It's just that in this topix the majority of the stuff is all false...all lies...in this case it was the truth and nothing but the truth. Go Eagles.

Is Tres the dude that will be going to UT to play for the Longhorns and his dad was a coach here. Coach Barrera was a total loser. We had a chance to win alot of games and beat the San Antonio school but he made alot of mistakes causing loses of atleast six of the games, so our Eagles didn't make playoffs. Then he went on to the Valley. Glad he left.

Eagles won fair and square. Sharyland had plenty of opportunities to put away the Eagles the whole game yet they could never do it.

Sharyland's season ends in controversial fashion Raul Dominguez | Special to The Monitor

SAN ANTONIO – Sharyland’s season came to a surreal and controversial end Friday night.

The Eagle Pass Eagles won 10-9 in the Class 5A regional quarterfinal at San Antonio Harlandale High School, scoring the winning run on a disputed balk with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the eighth. The balk was one of a series of controversial calls in the final two innings that allowed Eagle Pass to score two runs to tie the game in the seventh and win it in the eighth.

“Unreal. It’s unreal,” a Rattlers assistant coach kept saying over and over again as the team’s players openly wept outside the dugout.

Sharyland coach Barton Bickerton refused to talk after the game, slamming a bat and breaking it in two pieces prior to leaving the field.

The four-man umpire crew had to be escorted out of the Tejeda Complex by Harlandale Independent School District officials and police officers.

The controversy began to grow in the seventh with Sharyland leading 9-7 in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded and one out.

Following a lead-off double, Juan Lopez was awarded first base after being hit in the helmet by Pancho Martinez, who entered in relief of Tres Barrera in the third inning. Lopez swung on the play, but the umpires ruled he was attempting to avoid the ball.

Martinez was still able to induce what appeared to be a game-winning double play, but after Barrerra was taken out by a hard slide after stepping on second base, he tumbled, throwing the ball straight into ground and allowing the tying runs to score as the ball rolled to first base.

Bickerton and Barrerra both protested that the runner should have been out at first because the lead runner slid beyond second base to break up the double play. The umpires maintained the call, ejecting Barrera and Bickerton for arguing.

After Sharyland was unable to score in the top of the eighth, Eric Gonzalez led off the top of the inning with a double to deep left-center field for Eagle Pass. Following a sacrifice bunt that advanced Gonzalez to third, the Rattlers opted to load the bases with two intentional walks.

After Martinez picked up his ninth strikeout for the second out of the inning, his first pitch to R.J. Ruiz resulted in a foul to right field. There was mass confusion, however, as the third-base umpire ruled Martinez had balked, enabling the Eagles to score the winning run in controversial fashion.

Sharyland had taken a 9-7 lead thanks to a five-run fourth inning.

There was at least one reporter "Live from the Harlandale ISD Frank M. Tejeda Sports Complex Baseball Stadium" who missed the game. Which one do you think it was?

Someone tell the business journal dude that it was a balk not a base hit that won the game. And he claims he was live at the stadium. Must have been at the concession stand buying hot dogs!

The Eagle Pass High School Eagles rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 9-9 and sent it into extra innings as the Eagles loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth inning when standout Eagle second baseman R.. J. Ruiz drew the Mission Sharyland Rattler pitcher Pancho Martinez to balk and bring in the winning run to upset the second-ranked state team Mission Sharyland Rattlers 10-9 to clinch the Regional Quarter-Finals Championship and now advance to the Regional Sem-Finals Championship next week against San Antonio Johnson Jaguars.

Eagles Head Baseball Coach Reynol Mendoza in an exclusive interview with the Eagle Pass Business Journal immediately after the game stated that “it was an amazing game. The win was a total team effort as the players never gave up and battled until the last out was made in the game.”

Coach Mendoza also stated that the Eagles and San Antonio Johnson Jaguars had previously agreed that if they met in the Regional Semi-Finals Championship series they would do a home and home series giving Eagle Passans an opportunity to attend and see a playoff game at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Student Activity Center’s Baseball Field. Coach Mendoza that he would meet Monday with the San Antonio Johnson head coach to determine the exact date, time, and place for the series and announce it to the public.

The Eagle Pass Business Journal congratulates the Eagle Pass Eagles baseball team players, coaches, managers, trainers, and parents on their outstanding victory over the heralded Mission Sharyland Rattlers and earning the Regional Quarter-Finals Championship.
