Since my Mother (Adeline Hutson ) was killed by a member of the Kickapoo Tribe Of Texas while leaving the Lucky Eagle Casino my Family and I have picketed a few times in Eagle Pass where she lived to make them aware of the danger that exist when they enter lands owned by the Tribe. While we are peacefully picketing at different locations we have been confronted several times by Kickapoo that are offended by our presence. They are very brave to hurl insults at women even my sister who was with my mother the day of the accident but being the cowards they are if you want to insult us don’t speed off when the men approach you. I have read in history that the Kickapoo are brave warriors (what has happened)?

Well gambling is evil in itself. The bible speaks of not putting your faith into games of chance. Sorry about your relative, but if they had been reading their bible, they would have known that God looks down on gambling. If she had been reading, she would have known this and wouldn't be at the casino!

This is the first time in American history as far as we know where a non-native American has been killed by a tribal member on their land. We need help spreading the word, can you help? We were not aware that the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino would take the position that the laws that are set in place in our Country do not protect the Customers that they invite into their Casino and my Mother was an invited guest. We don’t even know if the Casino authorities have “laws” that protect their customers from drunk drivers. If we had known that our laws would not protect my Mother and her rights we would have discouraged her from going to this Casino. The Casinos advertisements do not disclose that U.S. Laws do not apply on their premises as they are claiming in my Mothers senseless fatal accident at the hands of a drunk driver. What we do know is the Casino uses U.S. jails but they did not allow DPS or the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department to investigate my Mothers head on collision with a drunk driver. My mother was the only one that had auto insurance; the suspect had no identification or insurance. We were told the owner of the vehicle also had no insurance

My Mother was the only one with insurance and a driver’s license as required by the state of Texas, as far as we know. We have not been able to find anyone willing to help our family and fight for my Mother’s rights however there are plenty of people and rights afforded the driver since he is Native American. 2 months have come and gone now and my Mother’s ashes sit atop a mantle in our home inspiring us to not give up hope that the rights of my Mother and Sisters will not be forgotten and justice will be served. Thank You.

Adeline Jane Hutson, a loving devoted mother, grandmother and friend, age 73, of San Antonio, died Saturday, December 11, 2010. Adeline was a wonderful caregiver who gave so much time and love to her patients with Alzheimer's. She brought happiness and humor into everyone's life. Adeline had a deep love for life, family and friends. Her strength, love and beauty will never be forgotten. Her sudden and senseless death occurred on the new Casino Rd. in Eagle Pass, TX. Adeline spent many happy and wonderful years living and enjoying life in Eagle Pass married to Mr. S. George of Eagle Pass. She moved back to San Antonio to care for her husband who developed cancer and later died. She remained in San Antonio to be close to her children. She enjoyed so much the ranch life and being outdoors. It was her daughter’s birthday and that’s what brought her to the casino for only a few hours, it was to be her last. The driver who took her life has showed no remorse and we have not been contacted by anyone from the casino and no one has expressed condolences of any kind. Our objective is to not only raise awareness to the hazards of Drinking and Driving but for you to educate yourself to the laws that apply to you on Casino Land. Which laws apply U.S. law or Tribal law?.........There are no better people in the State of Texas than the good people of Eagle Pass but something has changed and I feel it is the uneven balance of power given to the cowardly Kickapoo. They use the Native American card to get away with and do whatever they want to with no regard to consequences. Everyone can help by writing their congressional reps at the State and Federal level as we are doing. We are planning a trip soon to Washington D.C. to speak in person to our reps. but a letter a call or e-mail will also work. That is what we need help with it's time for the people of Eagle Pass to take back their town before the Kickapoo completely ruin it forever. I enjoyed my hunting trips to Eagle Pass but I think that has all changed for me now. Thank You to the people of Eagle Pass you have been very kind to me and my family, let's make sure everyone is covered under the same law, the law of the United States Of America.

While I might not be able to understand the magnitude of your loss, I can understand your anger. But I have a question...you live in San Antonio, there are DWI accidents resulting in death quite often; how many times has the city of San Antonio or the State of Texas apologized to the victims families for one of its community members taking their lives? You protest the Tribe in hopes of informing people of the dangers of driving on that road and the lack of laws to protect them...well, there are dangers all over! And there are laws that might protect victims and some don't. Not long ago, a Judge in Bexar County sentenced a man to 10 years probation for killing someone when driving while intoxicated. So why not protest San Antonio? Why not the State? And then you come on this site, to vent? Really!! You say that the Casino has not called to apologize to you; why would they. They are not responsible for what a Tribal member did! We (tribal or non-tribal) cannot hold our community responsible for crimes committed by members of our community! Anytime anyone gets in a vehicle, you run the danger of being killed...a drunk driver, someone falling asleep on the wheel or even texting. And I hope this is a lesson for you.... I'm sure at one point or another, you might have made the stupid mistake of driving while intoxicated; count your lucky stars that you didn't commit such a horrendous crime! We are all guilty of driving while intoxicated or buzzed at one point or another. Some of us have just been fortunate to not have caused an accident! And I enjoy visiting San Antonio and because there are accidents there all the time, it doesn't mean I'm going to protest or boycott or stop visiting. I pray that you find healing soon so that you may be able to grieve your mother in peace!

EAGLE PASS, Texas -- Charged with intoxication manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and public intoxication, 35-year-old Raul Rodriguez remains in the Maverick County Jail under a $100,000 bond set by the Kickapoo tribal court.
Rodriguez, who was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck, was not injured in the Dec. 11 crash that killed Adeline Hutson , a 73-year-old San Antonio grandmother who had just left the Lucky Eagle Casino near Eagle Pass. She was crushed behind the steering wheel of her white sedan.
Kickapoo means to stand about or wanderer but I think it really means to hide under the women’s skirt.

The whole reservation system is a travesty. The money-laundering mafias behind the gaming at casino's is legendary and yet society and governments allow them to exist. The concept of a nation within a nation where the law that best protects them is the one that applies is hypocrisy and stupidity. Do away with the whole reservation system. Secondly, it does not matter that the land was tribal land or not, it was not reservation land, and thus to hell with the Kickapoo Court. The smallest, newest reservation was started to get the drunken, paint sniffers out from under the bridge where they waited to get their checks, food stamps and other American benefits. They never belonged in Eagle Pass, this was just a place to shave, shit, shower and check the mail - some got stuck, and we got stuck with them.

Death and Afterlife . Death is accepted with some equanimity and is surrounded with little display of emotion or prolonged mourning. The spirit will journey to a place in the West and reside there happily. There is some fear of the spirits of the dead, however, and children and surviving spouses are considered at risk.......The Kickapoo are using the system to their advantage. Under normal circumstances we would know without a doubt this individual would be prosecuted but since he is playing the Native American Card every politician around is running for cover. This is a very sad time in our History and my Mother is the unfortunate victim.

Federal law mandates that gambling income be spent to support tribal government, economic development and other tribal social programs, and also allows individual Indians to receive cash distributions under approved plan the millions generated by the casino have done little to benefit the average Kickapoo.

Everyone needs to be aware that if something happens to you at the Casino or on other Tribal Land that you will be on your own as they will claim Sovereign Immunity.
