WHAT has the council voted on for the new city budget 2009-2010?? Who got raises, what projects have been cut? Are our taxes going up? Is the water rates going up? Are they firing more police officers? Did they fire anyone from the fire department?
WHAT have they done for us lately, Does anyone know??

DID YOU GO TO A MEETING? DID YOU GO ASK FOR ANY INFO AT CITY HALL? THAT IS THE BEST WAY TO FIND OUT W/O THE BULL THAT COMES ON THESE MESSAGE BOARDS. THE NEGATIVITY ON HERE IS SICK AND IF FOLKS ARE REALY INTERESTED THEY NEED TO GO TO CITY HALL AND ASK. I DON'T THINK SINCE RMC3(WINK-WINK) THAT ANY CITY COUNCEL MEMBERS HAVE BEEN ON LINE IN THE FORUMS. SO I WOULD SUGGEST A VISIT TO THE ONES THAT KNOW, THE CITY SECRETARY IS VERY HELPFULL AND VERY SWEET SHE WILL HALP ALL SHE CAN I KNOW FROM PAST EXPERIENCE WITH HER THAT SHE IS WONDERFULL AND SEEMS TO CARE A GREAT DEAL ABOUT OUR WONDERFULL LITTLE TOWN.
BLESS THE BAY AND KEEP US SAFE.

I've heard that a budget has been passed and that "some" employees got a 3% raise!! How can this be IF the city was so broke it had to fire two police officers??
I will be requesting a copy of this budget to read for myself and I would suggest that IF you are really concerned about the city, you will do the same. It is OUR right and tax money, we need to know where our money going..

Let us know if this is just more gossip or the truth. If it is the truth, then our council owes us all an explaination. The newspaper will definitely be informed for a story. But I have found that many things brought up here on Topix end up being a distorted form of the truth so I'm holding off judgement. Please let us know the truth when you find it. Thank you.

Has anyone thought to look on the reno city web site? If y'all went to one of the meetings you might learn the budget was posted on there for all to see on the day it was adopted.
this council has nothing to hide!

Pelican Bay would have to have a city web site and being that it does not how can anything be posted?
Which council? Reno or PB? We are discussing PB's budget not Reno and from what I read they are in as much deep crap as PB. Their citizens are not happy with their council either.
Soon enough all the figures will be printed.

In the interest of the the citie's good health and posting, in a positive way, has anyone looked at your phone bill? At your cell phone bill? and what ever other bills you get? The fine print on your bill that lists TAXES shows 76020 as Azle. Does Pelican bay enjoy the benifit of any of those taxes? Or does Azle get it all. This could amount to a great deal of income for the city if thay can get it.

Well well, seems someone doesn't agree with this topic by their little icons above, well tooo bad! Cause here it comes**from what I see there are some major changes from last years budget. YOU decide on what you think about these amounts.
First, they did away with the medical insurance for the employees,(knew this was to happen)
General Government(daily operation cost of city)*

City secretary salary went from $19,004.00 to 19,574.00 now add the salary from the court's budget for court clerk (which she does also)$19,004.00 to 19,574.00 total:$39,148.00. last year's salary was $38,008.00
But the "actual" she was paid for up to June 30,09 was $28,844.74 PLUS the court clerk's salary!! You do the math!!
Code Blue (COPS) and the Advisory Committee gets $800.00 each for the year.
The general govt budget went from $89,944.00 for 08-09 to $84,704.00 for 09-10. But by June 09 the city had spent $108,095.60

Police Dept: Chief's salary dropped by $8,000.00 from $48,000. to 40,000.00. Officer's salary dropped from $128,868.18 to $72,100.00 due to the lose of two officers. They added $3,600 to pay reserve officers?? Their budget from 08-09 was $245,654. to $169,394. for 09-10. By June 09 they had spent $186,664.69 of that $245K.

There wasn't much change in the FD but here are the figures: 08-09 budget was $22,055. they spent by June 09 $17,151.60 and new budget is $31,355. There are funds such as grants, training, fund raiser which are excluded under a different title and they total with the above numbers: 08-09 $30,430. spent by June 09 21,801.18 and new total for 09-10 is $34,080.00 for the department.

Here's more**
Code Enforcement- 08-09 budget was $20,135. spent by June 09,$11,937.28 budget for 09-10 is $13,400.00. Officer salary went from $8,360. to $4,000.00 and is on a "As Needed" basis.

Courts-clerk's salary (city secretary does this job as reported on first page) is 19,574.00 for 09-10 from 19,004.00 for 08-09. Budget for 08-09 was $61,803. to $52,359.00 for 09-10. Many fees under this budget are required by law from the courts activity.

TOTAL expenses for 08-09 was $435,146. and $381,197. for 09-10. Total revenue for 08-09 were $407,190. and $381,290.00 for 09-10.

Now the water department: Income for 08-09 budget was $538,993.50 and budget for 09-10 is $665,760.00.
Expenses are: Budget from 08-09 were $523,043.30 and for budget year 09-10 is $665,712.00. NO room for unexpected expenses!!
The biggest changes for the water dept are salaries:
Water clerk: from $21,433.13 (08-09) to $31,065.00 (09-10) an increase of:$9,631.87.

Water supervisor went from $35,072.48 (08-09) to $49,120.00 (09-10) an increase of:$14,047.52 and he got a $3,000.00 raise last budget year!!

Water employees: went from $35,480.(08-09) to $49,440.00 (09-10). If split equally would amount to:$24,720.20 for the two employees. But a jump of $13,640.00 from last year budget.

One thing you must remember is this is ONLY on paper!! They will spend whatever and whenever they want and try to catch up when next fiscal year rolls around for the short fall in funds.

This is YOUR TAX money at work. You should know where it is going and how it will "hopefully" be spent.
There may be more updates if and when I get them.
These reports are OPEN to the public, just put it in writing that you want a copy of the "approved city budget" and state what year(s). 10 cents a page is not a bunch of money to see where your, OUR tax money is going!!!!!

I must add one item I forgot and that's the fines and warrants fees (income). 08-09 budget was $60,000.00 and collected by June 30,09 was $51,410.00 and budgeted for 09-10 is $60,000.00
And they said the cops were not doing their jobs by issueing citations, serving warrants and bringing in lost revenues from out standing fines and fees!! BRAVO !!! And they said it couldn't be done!!!

I have to say that of all the figures presented, I totally agree with the increase for the water dept. Mike and the guys are the hardest working employees in this city. They come out and help regardless of the weather conditions or time. Mike and his guys have come out to help me and have gone out of their way to handle any emergency. I'll always back them and any increase they can get. Now the other employees, well, can't say much for them.
