why are we wasting tax dollars to jail the person, or persons, that did this? This is just another example of why Iowa needs to reinstate the death penalty!

he's a year older than me. we went to school together. we were raised together. his mom told him how pathetic he was since as long as i can remember. she'd get done from a wknd of drugs and go home and wake him up mind you he's a CHILD at this point. 3, 4, 5, 6 years old come home, wake him up just to remind him that he'd never amount to anything. that he was pathetic. he'd ask for a popsicle and she melt them under the sink and then throw them at him "heres your f*ing popsicle"

what he did was WRONG. no doubt on that. but its as if he's already paid for this, like he has already suffered for what he hadnt done yet.

just know that everyone is an innoccent child at one point in our lives.
he never knew love. just break the cycle, i know you probably cant see what im saying its just after all this, ive COMPLETLEY lost my ability to judge anyone. my capacity to judge, gone.
our world is so hateful because of US but WE continue to complain. please join me in stopping this horrific cycle.

How senseless this act was. It doesn't matter how bad the culprit was treated, he (they) had no right to do what they did to a person who could not defend themselves. Its a coward act, would he (they) have done this to someone who could fight back? Probably not cause they would be feeling the pain they inflicted on Devin. I pray for his family and friends that God will show them the way to remember the good In Devin and live with only the memories they now have. RIP Devin

Kelsey - I see what you're trying to say - however, that boy's upbringing does NOT - in any way - excuse cold blooded murder.

There are thousands of people who deal with being abused in one way or another as children who have overcome it and have chosent to break that cycle. This boy made the choice to be part of that cycle. You're right - hurt people do hurt people (sometimes)- and when they make that choice - they need to pay for their crime like anyone else. Try to tell Devin's family that his murderer has "already paid for his crime" - because what - his mom melted some popsicles? That's completely insensitive, ignorant and insane. That murderer should be put to death - if he can't break the cycle of hurt and pain himself - someone should do it FOR him. If it wasn't Devin - it would have been some other kid - or his own child someday. A hatchet to the face? Seriously? And you think he has already paid for this... you should be evalutated yourself.

Sorry I cannot agree with the person who is trying to defend this person. Everyone knows right from wrong. Sounds to me like they took advantage of a kid who just wanted friends. These three charged are sick and demonic in my opinion. They will have their day in court and hopefully be out of our society for a very long time if not for the rest of the natural lives.

So being abused by one's parent excuses one for killing someone who is weaker? Lots of us could find one excuse or another for our bad behavior. Let's not lose sight of the fact that an innocent young man has been taken from this earth, and I didn't know Devin, but we are the poorer for the loss. May God comfort Devin's family.

The person that did this deserves no better than what he did to another. An eye for an eye. Hurt people do hurt people. But, he didn't just hurt someone, he KILLED someone. That is completely different. We all have choices and he made his, now he will have to face the consequences. Many prayers to Devin's family.

Kelsey, I think it would be different if Devin was your family and the murderer wasn't your friend.

I agree with an eye for an eye. I knew Devin and know his family very well. He was a sweet, talented young man who took all that life gave him and turned it into something positive. He loved without expecting anything in return. None of this makes any sense but when I see the grief in his family and friends' eyes, I get so angry. There is no excuse. We, as parents need to instill in our children compassion and sensitivity. This murderer doesn't have either. Nor remorse. May he rot in hell as Devin looks down from heaven upon him....R.I.P. Dev Love and miss you May God give strength to his family as time goes on...

I think death is too good for these guys. They need to rot in prison and all the inmates need to know what they have done!

one person only killed this poor young man, the others were scared to death, dont punish them till you know all the facts, ive known anthony simpson all his life, he would not hurt anyone or anything, he was never mean to anyone or anything and he is devastated, let the facts be learned before you sentence them all to prison or death.

you know i dont care if he was tormented. So was i. I lost my little brother to child abuse and i was abused myself and that dont give me the right to kill someone. whatever they give him i personally think they should re-instate the death penalty.

Devin was a wounderful person and i think anyone involved should go down with lucas Yes there was only one person who killed devin but anyone with him was just as guilty because they left him there for two days what kind of sick people do that then take his phone and car so he couldnt call for help or drive for help those assholes took away one of my closest family members and i dont care if they were abused or not they took away something that would have amounted to more than they could ever be and in my book they lose cuz devin is in a better place doing great things and they arnt goin to find peace in this life or the next.
