Katie Zerr,

I was saddened by the report of the head-on collision involving my sister, Carol Fischer, as I believe it is inaccurate. The true facts as reported by Carol are that the hunter's vehicle braked suddenly and stopped, and she found that she could not avoid hitting their vehicle, so she was faced with making a split second decision to either ram into that vehicle or swerve to the side. She veered off to the right and lost control of her vehicle. The head on collision followed.

Carol sustained critical injuries in this accident. Her left leg is shattered at the ankle, and she has 5 fractured ribs on the right side, as well as a head injury, large laceration on the front of her head, and injuries on the back of her head, and numerous contusions, abrasions and hematomas.

She is in intensive care at St Alexius Hospital in Bismark, N.D. She has had one surgery on her leg to stabilize, until more delicate surgery can be performed, and is being treated for diminished lung capacity, resulting from the trauma and severe pain caused by the rib fractures.

Carol is very grateful for the devotion of her husband and children, who have maintained a constant vigil at her bedside at St Alexius Hospital, and to the medical staff there, as well as for all the prayers and wishes for her recovery from friends and co-workers. Although she has acute pain and is heavily medicated, she has expressed concern and sadness for others injured in the collision.

We her family, are very thankful that she and all of those injured, survived this accident, and request prayers for the recovery of them all.

Sincerely,

Mary Cathleen (Hardcastle) Brockamp

how sad is right. some of the students that were injured, are being forced by presentation college to withdraw from school do to injuries. this greatly effects there chance to continue with there education. possibly ending there dreams of financial suffiency and lifting there selves out of poverty. but i guess in south dakota what happens to a group of indians is of no concern. i am very sorry for carols misfortune, but an accident such as this, has hurt more than this vigilant family. i guess the real bad guy in this accident is presentation college, for not having a heart.
