The solution is simple. If he's not a citizen of the United States, put him through a trial and if found guilty, export him ASAP.

If he is a citizen, put him through a trial and if found guilty, give him 5-10 years behind bars. Then when he gets out, revoke his citizenship and then export him ASAP.

Enough of his BS.

Typical defense attorney comment, I don't know anything yet but my client is not only not guilty, but is actually the victim here. Does the Pioneer Press have a direct connection to Jim Backstrom's house? They can get ahold of him 24/7 for a comment. He needs to stop talking and figure out how to put this guy away.

What the hell is wrong with out court systems. This POS has been in and out of trouble WAY too many times. Why is he not in the slammer or deported?? This is what we're paying taxes to our court system for?? If one of us were in his home country we'd never see the light of day!!!

Yes Barney, take the bullet out of your pocket now..........

The only thing this guy has learned, and learned VERY WELL....is how to lie, cheat, and talk his way out of situations. Now he graduates to getting a lawyer, who will continue to lie cheat and talk his client out of situations like this. His past record only goes to show how messed up the legal system is in this state, and in this country. The lawyers make the laws, judge the laws, and themselves evade any punishment.[remember the last judge that got a "slap on the wrist", or the lawyer getting a repremand after black-mailing another lawyer?]

And we wonder why guys like this learned it from?

Its interesting how the alleged attack on this twit never made the news, probably because it never happened. Until some judge grows a set, we will be hearing more and more as he racks up the offenses. I would suggest the IRS take a look at his source of income, they might find some federal time in his future!

Why no picture of him? Certainly with all his background, the PP should be able to dig one up so we can stear clear of him, if we can.

It's not entirely the court systems fault. You can look to the guys in St. Paul who devise the guidelines for the statutes. Drunk driving gets a pass, as do most other offenses that they can lump in misdemeanors no matter how many times you commit them. The statutes are way off and keep idiots like this on the street. It's a pay as you go system so the more they arrest him and put him back on the street the more money they make off his fines and lawyer fees. Don't kid yourself, they count on that revenue big time. And now with all the flap about the forfeitures they probably won't even go after his Mercedes in a true bonafide case that they should have taken it. At least his victim should be able to sue either him or the county if they go light on him again.

Sure glad they lowered the DUI limit low enough that a person has 2 glasses of something with dinner and you have to worry about a DUI.

But this guy who runs folks over, has multiple traffic and DUI offenses, will just do a month or so in the slammer and be let out to do it all over again.

Make perfect sense to me.

our criminal justice "system" has done a mighty fine job handling saddam samaan in the past and the best any of us who pay their salaries can hope for is that they will mete out some well conceived justice to him this time too ... is their some kind of law that says we can't deport people we don't want to share our country with anymore?

It is scary when we stop and realize just how many people there are out there with the same simple minded mentality as the “A lady in St Paul” and we have to deal with the brunt of their stupidity, try to pass laws to deal with the scourge of society and along come idiots like; A Lady in St Paul that would protest any laws that encompass using common and logical sense, of which I believe those are two senses she and many other people of her ilk are void of. If using names as a means of profiling so be it, Saddam Samaan should either be in jail or deported, how many strikes is he allowed.
