I almost puked when I read the criminal complaint. I promised myself that I would never read another one again. This women should be sitting behind bars for years to come, and never in her life be allowed to be in the same room as this child. I wonder how long it'll be before she gets him back, and the horror begins again for that defenseless child.

Isn't that the truth. What a pitiful representation of our judicial system.

unfortunately kmkl is wrong, a stranger on the street wouldn't get any more respect by the current philosophy of law.

The big thing that I don't see there is some sort of alcohol/drug testing for the 10 years of probation. That would be the biggest thing to change her life around.

Thanks, Bill. When is society going to see the danger in addiction. It's a brain disease, people. True, this woman should never have contact with that or any other child for a long time. Incarceration alone is just going to make her more inept. This woman needs at least 1 year, after jail time, in-patient treatment. One slip, back in the can for ???

I wish the paper would change its style guide to find different words from "parent", "Mom", "mother", "Dad" or "father" when referring to these subhuman abusers.

The capacity to reproduce doesn't make one a parent, a Mom or a mother.

Certainly there is a better word for a creature such as this, who selfishly overcomes the ancestral protective maternal instincts and endangers or even kills its own offspring. Completely devoid of individual responsibility, they blame the substances they ingest for their crimes against innocent children. She was "wasted"... Oh. OK. Bad girl! Six months with credit for time served. Sheesh. Well, they did maker her cry. I suppose that's a pretty harsh punishment.

I have met so many childless couples whose hearts break when they read a story like this. I hope someone gives this child a chance to grow up in an environment populated by human beings, in contrast to the child's birth "family".

Tells a lot about our justice system doesn't it. Children are expendable commodities in todays world. They don't deserve a moments notice. How many children have to endure this kind of abuse before these stupid prosecutors and judges take notice? Vick is sitting in prison for what? 2 years? for supposedly running a dog fighting operation. But this nitwit abuses her baby not once, but numerous times, admits to it and we shake our heads and give her 6 months in jail and turn her loose to repeat her behavior. And we just walk away and forget it. There should be calls for Backstrom to step down. This is not the first time he has called for punishment that is a joke for the offense. And who was the judge? People need to start keeping score on these lacking justice people so they forceably end their careers with the next election.

S0 many families would love to take this child into their home...

Eventually I would be the system will give her the child back.
It is a horrible truth.

WHO BITES ANYONE NONE THE LESS A CHILD?
HOW IN THE HELL IS THAT GOING TO MAKE A CHILD STOP CRYING?

Aw damnit. Just when I had regained my faith in humanity.

People that do this stuff should be sentenced far worse than they are, this is an INJUSTICE. I don't care how "wasted" you are or how much the babies cry her actions are completely UNACCEPTABLE. If you cant raise a child dont open your legs. She should be spayed.

If her parental rights are not terminated I will lose total faith in our system. She admitted the abuse, for gods sake. How is it possible she gets off so easily???? The county attorney's office takes the easy way out, and gets a confession by promising a light sentence. It would be so much more work for the co. attorney's office to actually prosecute her and get her the sentence she deserves. What an unbelievable joke this is.

This story just enrages me the more I think about it. Parenting classes!!! I think this woman is way beyond parenting classes. And Backstrom, don't be so pleased about the so-called justice you brought about. Justice for whom??

The county attorney called this "justice"? What kind of moron is this person? And the judge, retire right now, peoples lives may be in danger if you remain a judge, you are worthless, but I am curious how the judge may be related to this scumbag woman, nobody but family would be so blind.
Justice would be mandatory sterilization,( of her AND the supposed "boyfriend" who turned a blind eye ), a bare minimum of 18 years prison with NO chance of parole,( why, I want to make sure this child is an adult before this scum sees the free world again. After release lifetime parole and no contact with minors unless they outweigh her and can fight back. Ok, that one is a stretch, but the rest IS reasonable.

That would be a short and sweet solution, no doubt.
Causing a helpless child pain calls for less compassion than a quick solution. I would prefer to see this person suffer a while, the longer the suffering the better.
