If Eric Stauffer don't like it then move on out of this area and life would be better off and even better all the ones that sign that petitions can move on out and problem sloved. It's better for them to go and shut the trouble up and all of us can move on with out hearing your crying about things. You don't own the roads so either shut up or move on and try to sproil some others lives.

I live in one of the subdivisions off Eville Road and drive it daily for work generally 7:30AM-7:45AM and again 5:15PM-5:30PM, about 5-6 miles each way. The problem with the trucks is that they tend to travel closer to 50-60 mph when it's posted 45 and 35. These heavy trucks come barreling around a corner and cut into oncoming traffic. I try to hug my side as much as possible to give them room if they do come onto my side, and they have. If they stayed within the posted speed, it wouldn't be so bad. Granted, cars speed too, but a truck hitting you at that speed would be more damaging than a car. Also, with many blind curves, would they be able to stop in time to avoid hitting a school bus or someone turning off Eville Road into a drive way? Do they add more wear and tear and maintenance to this type of road due to their weight?

I've never had a problem with trucks on that road but cyclists annoy the heck out of me. I come around a blind turn and see some yuppie with his spandex enjoying some leisure time while I, coming home from work, almost get in a head-on collision with a fellow commuter trying to make a living. The dork they interviewed was going to chris greene lake. Yeah thats real important lets cater to him. Truck drivers are just trying to make a living.

These are STATE roads. Earlysville Road isn't owned by the town of Earlysville or its residents. I drive route 743 daily, and have for the past 30 years. I cannot recall a time that I felt my life in jeopardy from a speeding truck, but MANY times I have taken my life (and a biker’s life) into my own hands trying to pass a cyclist that was impeding the flow of a long line of traffic.

Earlysville Rd IS Bypass 29 until a real bypass gets built. Don't want trucks on Earlysville Rd? Build the bypass. And God bless the truckers!

Why would they mention the woman hit by a car fifteen years ago in relation to a story about truckers on the road? Looks like they were trying, once again, to spin the story to suit their story.

Ms. Mallek thinks the road is owned by the town and all others using it are "transients" (her words in a previous story). There is nothing there except a cross roads and some old subdivisions, a post office and a mechanic. OH - lest I forget -- her husband's dental office.

You are so right! The City of Charlottesville has spent how much money to make the city "bike-friendly"? So let the bikers use the paths that have been created just for them. The bikers should stop expecting everybody to yield to them so that they can have a joy ride. The economy is dependent on good roads for trucks and cars.
Think that the roads are for everybody? Who pays the most in road taxes? Trucks and cars. Bikes pay NOTHING to use the roads. They don't have to buy a license, or follow the rules of the road.
So much ignorance.

I think bicycles should stay off of back roads and heavy traveled roads. They run bike races where I live and they are 4 and 5 wide across the road and won't get over, so that is when you lay on the horn and scare the bageebees out of them or slam on the brakes so the tires squal and then just maybe they will move. Trucks have just as much right to the road as anyone else!!! They have a job to do unlike the bicycles they are on joy rides because obviously they don't have to work like us po' folk. KEEP BICYCLES ON PATHS AND stay off the road!!!!
And so much hatred.

What is so wrong with everyone?

If only there was a road they could use instead of US29 or Earlysville road to... I dunno... bypass Charlottesville and avoid half the wrecks on US-29 in VA.

Common sense would suggest that if you have a conniption over sharing the road with cyclists that you should probably turn in your drivers license. 99.9% of the population can manage; why not you?

Please reconcile "all we ask is to share the road with you"

with

"IF IT DOSENT HAVE MOTOR IT SHOULDNT BE ON A ROAD WITH MOTOR VECHILS."

---

I ride most every day and I know how to share the road, as do most drivers. But sharing the road doesn't not always mean I have to immediately get out of every car driver's way. Safety trumps convenience, and there are times when a car won't get to pass immediately. No one is happy about it, but a little patience goes a long way.

Of course some drivers use this to insist that cyclists think they 'own the road' which is ironic, at best.
