Now start the clock to see if the Orange county Walmart is open before the one in Greene. Let's also watch to see if the touted tax benefits from economic development actually bring down Greene's property and real estate taxes. More is not always better so let's keep an eye on the progress of business "welfare" - such as - free/reduced water & sewer connection/usage fees for businesses, etc., etc.

In actuality, the Luck Stone Quary within sight of the Greene Walmart, has been on tv (ala Walter Cronkite) to show dinosaur tracks in the quary pit. The Greene Cavemen do have a good case and shoul win a huge settlement. They're asking for native "popped" up out of the ground" residency status so they don't have to show their "stone" cards and they don't want to pay real estate taxes on their caves.

I stand corrected. It was the Culpeper Luck Stone Quary that had the dinosaur tracks that are now in the Smithsonian. I don't think the Greene Cavemen care about proximity, they still want to be considered natives of Greene with all the associated advantages - being able to raise their hands at all the Greene meetings when the question is eventually asked - who is a born-and-raised "native?" Now the Cavemen can proudly raise their hairy club arms and get their just recognition. Yeah, Cavemen!( not Cavman ).

By the time they get this build the GAS prices is going to be to high for anyone go all the way out there. All the CONTRACTORS here in Charlottesville must be to busy so they go out of town to get the job done. Funny how we build around here with people needing jobs and they go out of town to get someone to come here all that way to do what contractors around here could be doing it for them and a lot of GAS saved from road trips from there and back to Richmond. Maybe the BUILDERS will come from Richmond to up here to spend money in the STORE THEY BUILDED.

The job was bided on by 100s of local contractors and the richmond ones bided 10s of thoundsands dollars lower tha the local guys. If they weren't trying to rip off a large coroporation they may have gotten the bid. Greed never wins out

Fyi: we do have good hygene in this county maybe you were smelling your mother

Not a chance, politicians with larger tax revenues find new ways to waste it. A proven result.

Good one, the best you can do is play the mother card. There is not one family in Greene that has a full set of teeth.

Let them think what they want -- just so long as they keep living in Charlottesville! We know how good life is in Greene, and we know that we don't need folks like that here.

Having the distinct dishonor of living in Greene for more time than I care to admit, I know first hand the real problems they have faced there. Too many shared genetic markers. Or said another way, their family trees ain't got no limbs. Excuse the double negative please.

OK, you've had your fun. Remember, however, not all Greene residents can be included in your generalizations. Most folks ignore these rude comments so that you continue these misconceptions in order to keep people who believe this stuff living elsewhere. I have to laugh a little bit when I remember these comments when I hear the news and all the crap that happens in Charlottesville. Is Greene idyllic? No, and no place is. But I feel very fortunate to live in Greene, and accept people for who they are. Most liberals like to SAY they are so accepting of others, but in reality, they find some group that they can look down upon that is socially acceptable. You may feel superior, but I would be willing to bet that you did not attempt to get to know the long-term residents while you lived here. And if they sensed your disdain and attitude, I am sure they would return the favor.

To be fair, its an historical fact that most small isolated communities such as Greene did keep the blood lines a wee bit thin but that was true of all communities not so long ago. My discontent with Greene were the lack of concern and no real impetus to bring their school curriculum up to the 20th century. I got to know quite a few individuals while living there. Many displayed remarkable intellect in whats refered to as native intellect, but they were totally ignorant of the world around them. Not stupid, but ignorant, there's a difference for the ingrates who will probably voice there stupid remarks after I post this. Many of these folks have become close friends as we've watched each others kids grow up. Unfortunately as a result of these friendships I learned more things that I did not need to know about the real goings on there. It was disconcerting.

Its not so amazing that the comments have gone so far astray from the topic of WalMart. Who's paying attention? Petty, juvenile bantering does nothing to advance civility. Be more concerned about how and when having a Walmart will make life better.

I get it, OK? As long as you admit that there are small pockets of similar types of people everywhere, AND stop making such broad generalizations. Also, a bit of acceptance of others would be gracious.

Thanks -- I agree. Sorry, but I couldn't let those comments go -- again.

I am also glad that Lowes will have the companion store that will hopefully boost their sales.

Daily Horoscope for January 3

Aries

There is a strong focus on career and parental matters today. You need to be cautious regarding your dealings with someone in authority - things may not be what they seem. This is also a good day to spend time with your partner. Communication in general should prove to be smoother sailing than usual so this would be an opportune time to discuss delicate matters with others. Good news in the evening is indicated.
