Renting to own a house is a dumb idea. If the person you're renting from loses the house you lose everything you've put into it.

that's the best way to get income out of a house that you don't want to keep up

i dont really recall asking for opinions about if rent to own is smart or dumb. i think paying regular monthly rent is dumb bc u don't get anything out of it in the end...thank u.

Check with Mike Slaughter. He did have a house on Taylor Lane in Newbern that was for rent or rent to own. The idiots that live there now won't be there much longer. They can't pay the bills because the girl is lazy and a spend thrift and the guy is a drunk!
do u have a number where i can reach him? thank u!

You apparently don't get it. Nothing guarantees you'll get anything in the end when you rent to own. The house can be foreclosed on after you've made your last payment. It doesn't matter if you've been renting to own the house for 30 years, the landlord could go take out a new mortgage and skip out on the payments. Now you've paid for the house for the landlord, the landlord has all the money, and the bank is taking the house you thought you were buying. If you want to own a home, why not just buy a house the traditional way. Also, when you rent to own, you have no tax deductible interest like with a traditional mortgage.

i really don't care what your opinion is. i know what i want to do and i'm doing it. i dont think u understand that i got on here asking if anyone knew ppl that had rental homes, not asking if ppl think its a good idea or not...thank u.

Do not rent anything from them. All of the houses they own are ran down, I know 2 people who did the rent-to-own with them and the houses were a constant money pit.

Dude, the obvious is they have bad credit and cannot get a traditional mortgage, that is why they are looking this route. No one in their right mind would rent to own because of the very reasons you stated, but irresponsible people who cannot pay their bills on time and get bad credit because of it end up doing crap like renting to own. Just leave it, in the end they will lose everything, oh well.

hahaha u r so funny. i have perfect credit, as a matter of fact :)....we have weighed out the pros and cons and this is the route we want to take in our lives right now...i do not have to explain this to u or anyone else...u know whats best for you, and i know whats best for me and my family...u live ur life, i live mine...you understand that concept? i pay my bills on time(well actually early) and have 3 vehicles that are completely paid for, along with a cabin in pigeon forge...but thank u for ur hilarious input. LOL!! does arguing with a complete stranger make u feel like a big boy/girl? lmao!

you have to watch What you buy from them. But there are not many people around who do rent to own . They own all the properties. Where as others are still being paid on. Either way its a chance you take. Home ownership is not cheap..you are responsible for your homes upkeep and anything you want to do to remodel or make better. Good luck

yeah i think it is so funny that someone gets so defensive on a computer and starts saying i dont have good credit, when in fact they have no idea who i am. i just moved to town and dont know anyone, but i'm glad there is someone in dyersburg that "knows" all my dirty laundry and has such good manners to spread it around on topix, lmao. some people will never grow up and get a job...truth be known, that person doesn't have a job or anything else to call their own. lol

i agree, i would definitely be more than willing to meet that person face to face and discuss our different views, but that person seems like the type that has their opinion and anyone that has a different opinion is wrong and stupid...LOL u know those kind of ppl who have a miserable life but try to act like they r so happy? LOL
