4 wheelers are dangerous on or off road.

I would like to know why they are considered more dangerous than motorcycles on the road. I mean, it's logical that you are not going to take a Harly or Boss Hoss thru the muck or the woods. But on the road, what is the difference?

Why are kids allowed to ride their 4 wheelers, golf carts, dirt bikes etc on county roads? I understand there is nothing to do around here but someone is going to get hurt. Not disrespecting the young man whose life ended this past week due to an atv crash. I see several young men doing wheelys in the road, spin outs on the gravel at intersections, driving fast on short streets and no helmets in sight & not quite sure what to do. Sheriff Box, I know your Deputies have real crime to fight & they are already spread thin, but I've called on these kids & your dispatcher wasn't exactly taking me serious. I didn't feel reassured & never did see a deputy not even over the next few days. So I really don't want to call again & feel like I've caused an inconvenience. Now a days these some kids are punks and don't have respect for their elders, the law, or even their county. Not sure if this will accomplish anything.
And not to disrespect the many who have lost their lives to auto, plane, train, bus accidents. Accidents happen, always have, always will. So why keep calling the law on them? Let them enjoy their atv's. You enjoy your car, you may someday enjoy your wheelchair scooter. But my gosh, perish the thought of an elderly person taking a spin around the block to get some fresh air and sunshine in their golfcart or scooter.

You know you are right and there is some who do! We use to live in the county and it pissed me off when everyone else could ride their 4-wheelers, but as soon as my kids get on theirs to ride, the police got called every time.. Nothing ever said about the other 4 neighbors balling down the road playing chase though. Them cops let some go and the others dont get away with it. But nothing that has a motor to it can be safe. People really need to pay more attention and not be showing off on them and it would be much safer! Some think they made of steal but are not. If people drove them normal i bet noone would care if you rode on the road. But think before doing it will save ur life one day! js

um they made all UTVS street legal now as long as you have lights and as long as it will do 45 mph. you need to worry about somethin alot more serious as long as its in the county it is not hurting as much. I would agree with you if it was in the city limits and down lake road and roads like that

They should allow them on city streets too as long as they are going to allow all of the old people driving. The old people are more dangerous.

Parents need to think about where these children will ride before they buy 4 wheelers etc. People would be more willing to allow young people to ride on their property but there is the liability. If they get hurt where do the parents run to the owner of the property. Also children have no respect for other peoples property. They don't care if they ruin crops or gardens.

I live in the country where u see 5 cars a day. Its fine to ride a 4 wheeler on a dirt road. Don't talk about unless u grew up in the country. I don't talk about gang banging because iv never been around it. Leave the country ppl alone

I am a middle aged adult stating this opinion. What is all the negativity about a kid riding a 4 wheeler on a dirt road off the beaten path about.

If you want to act as an adult , then think about what your advocating. Calling the police, wanting 4 wheeler impounded, giving a kid a ticket prior to even having a driver license. In essence what you are promoting ,whether you realize it or not is for the kid to run from the police, once you put the call in. So come on so called Adults think about your actions, you in effect are setting the stage for these kids to run from the law, in effect setting the stage for a child to be hurt superficial, critical or otherwise by having the child fear your impoundment, tickets or other actions just for ridding a simple 4 wheel vehicle with a seriously small engine that couldn't even keep up with a motor vehicle on the highway.

Get out of that rocking chair mind set and realize you were once a child before adulthood. Lighten Up !

Final Note: Put a thrill between your legs, ride a 4 wheeler yourself once in a while. Does your mind good instead of dictating, lecturing, rules and laws from the podium of life!!!

There are always going to be two sides on this issue. I live in the country and see 4 wheelers going up and down the road all the time. My issue is with the morons riding with small children without any helmets. They are the ones that need ticketing. I don't worry about the adult that should have the sense to know this is dangerous; I worry about the child that doesn't stand a chance if they land in a ditch. They drive all over the road wide open and this one person has plenty of land to ride on. I wouldn't want anyone to have to live with the guilt of causing injury when it could have been avoided. And everyone saying "it's just boys having fun" need to find another excuse for irresponsible behavior. Stop blaming the parents all the time. You can teach your kids right from wrong, but ultimately they choose their own path.

Get over it already.its just a four wheeler on a county road for christ sake. If you want to raise a stink or bitch about something do it about things that matter. And yes you are just complaining because you probably have nothing better to do.I'm 42 years old and if these kids want to run the roads and get a little crazy, so what. When we were 16 we were racing cars with a hell of alot more power and no safety equipment. We treated outrunning the cops as a game. Stop being so "old" a d think about the stupid shit you and your friends did and people got killed during those days too.accidents. not on purpose. And stop with the " I just don't want to see them get hurt" shit. Give it a break already. At least they aren't robbing you to pay for a crack Babbitt.

Ok so here we are worrying about the kids getting hurt...but lets put shoulder pads and helmet on them and take a lick..or lets tell them to swing at a baseball flying around 5o or 60 mph. Better yet lets put them in a car and go to wal-mart knowing every car you meet you are within 1 foot of death. So realy people cause them trouble or teach them to be responsible and have fun? I choose the second answer.

Maybe parents need to teach their kids how to correctly operate a atv and give them a little trust and let them learn.
