Why are kids allowed to ride their 4 wheelers, golf carts, dirt bikes etc on county roads? I understand there is nothing to do around here but someone is going to get hurt. Not disrespecting the young man whose life ended this past week due to an atv crash. I see several young men doing wheelys in the road, spin outs on the gravel at intersections, driving fast on short streets and no helmets in sight & not quite sure what to do. Sheriff Box, I know your Deputies have real crime to fight & they are already spread thin, but I've called on these kids & your dispatcher wasn't exactly taking me serious. I didn't feel reassured & never did see a deputy not even over the next few days. So I really don't want to call again & feel like I've caused an inconvenience. Now a days these some kids are punks and don't have respect for their elders, the law, or even their county. Not sure if this will accomplish anything.

Oh no I wasn't talking about that Hurt, I was saying the law needs to get involved stopping these kids riding in our roads. I didn't mean no harm. These young kids don't think it's anything wrong with racing up & down the roads wide open. They think us "old folks" are just being grumpy old farts when I just don't want them getting hurt, I got grandkids myself.

So, I'm a teen & I have rode my 4wheeler on the road a lot. Its hard to find places to ride! All the trails in the woods have posted signs on them now, fields are still being farmed, the yard ain't big enough, so we ride on the road. Once things get outta hand and everyone starts acting crazy... then its a problem. But the county did it to themselves. Give us some place to ride that don't cost a fortune & we won't get on the roads

Typical teen...yea it's the countys fault that YOU ride in the road. Why should the county give YOU a place to ride YOUR 4 wheeler? It's YOUR guardians responsibility to make sure YOU have a place to ride before they buy YOU a 4 wheeler. Do YOU see whose responsiblity it is yet? Now maybe your parents can't afford much land but I'm sure if they was friendly enough or if you all attended church where bretheren who have land would know you are trustworthy, ya just might have someplace to ride.

Oh and "give us a place to ride & we won't get in the road" ha ha ha, I am personally gonna be calling THP & people I know to start creating an "awareness" of you kids riding in the road. It's ILLEGAL so what the county can do is give YOU a nice ticket that requires a fine & a court appearance. Maybe you'll get the message or maybe you won't. Either way guardians should be teaching these kids what's legal & illegal before the real world get a hold of them!

HERE WE GO AGAIN........
It's against the law and very dangerous to put these things on the road with or without a helmet. They are just the perfect height for an accident with a car/truck to KILL your sweet children. They don't have any signals/stop lights and the lil idiots riding them have no idea how to use hand signals (as their idiot parents do not know either). They ride them like they are in an X-game and don't care about the cars/trucks around them. No farmer will allow them to ride on their fields (crop or not) because the lil idiots destroy the land using it.
As for the POLICE (not po po IDIOT) being stretched to thin, most of them don't want to upset the poor idiot parents of these "kids" by ticketing them. And many have been hurt when the POLICE (not po po IDIOT) tried to stop them and they ran (taught this by their idiot parents??). Jeff Box needs to start ticketing and impounding these idiots. The word of this happening would stop it very quickly. And yes, they should impound them so even if our idiot judges dismiss the ticket, the parents would still have to pay the towing/impound/storage fees to get back their little idiots' atv. Can they impound? YES. Illegal vechiles cannot be driven home so must be towed away.....

Have a nice day idiots

I agree,I have a 16yr.old who happened to be good friend with th is young man and he keeps me on my toes worrying myself to death about him.Luckily he decided to sell his fourwheeler. At this age all they think about is the fun they can have,it seems they never think about what could happen. The bad part is in this town its all about who you know and some of the kids that were present at the accident had parents who were well known so in this case the law won't do anything but pat them on the back anyways.sad

First of all the kids were having fun and an accident occured. One died, the others will live with this trama for the rest of their lives. These children shouldn't go to jail, you who think so are just mean spirited.Parents need to think before purchasing these adult toys for their children. And it doesn't matter if the lost young man was 18,19,20.He was still a kid.His parents will never get over their loss.People PLEASE don't buy these things for your children. If you feel like you just have to,please provide a safe place for them to ride, safety gear and have an responsible adult with them. And don't expect the city or county to provide a place for them to play. You know when you purchase these things if you have a safe place for them to ride and if you don't then you are the irresponsible one.

Where are the parents? Who is in charge? It's illegal to ride a four wheeler on public roadways because they are not street legal. Do parents not care? Whose insurance is going to pay when one of them hits me?

We grew up without seatbelts, wa allowed to ride in the back of pick-ups, ride bicycles with NO helmets, camp out with NO tents, walk to store with NO parents watching. We are here and fine. Back off a little and let these kids live and learn. Hard lessons teach more than any adult will ever be able. Scars ( Both physical and mental ) are strong reminders and teachers!!!!!! Leave the law to the real criminals!!

But times have changed, there are more cars & trucks on the road, more distractions (texting and driving), speed limits are higher, and cars/trucks go faster. It's not like it used to be so with all those changes come change, parents need to be more responsible for what they let their kids do.
