You can log a total of 14 hours on duty in a 24 hour period. 11 of that can be driving and the other 3 can be on duty not driving ( fueling, wating to be loader, unloaded, pre-trip inspection, drop and hook etc.) Get your facts straight. And yes drivers have been cheating on there logs for as long as there have been logs.

FMCSR rules state, you can drive for 11 hours in a 24 hour period, then you must take a 10 hour unbroken rest break. You can be on on duty not driving for an additional 3 hours in the same 24 hour period. I have been a truck driver for over 35 years, I know what I'm talking about. So, NO YOU DO NOT HAVE IT RIGHT.

Here you go Shirley, I made it simple, even for you. Click on the link and read. It's the same thing I've been saying all along. It's the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration website.

I never said I did. I only corrected what Shirley said. However, from 5 am until 7 pm is 14 hours. And according to the rules, if you log 3 of the hours as on duty not driving, you are still legal. Simple math 14 on duty, that's lines 3 and 4 on your log book. 3 of which are on duty not driving, that's line 4 on your log book. Then 11 hours driving, line 3 on your log book, still equals 14. Get out your calculator if you can't figure it out. 5 am to 7 pm is 14 hours no matter which way you choose to count it. If those 3 hours of on duty not driving were logged from, say 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm you would still be able to be driving at at 7:00 pm and still be legal.
