I'd like to know because my son is going to 3rd grade and they sent a Teacher selection form home. There were also two other teachers on the list Monica Alford and Amiee Putnam.

I would stay away from Mrs Treadway and Mrs Putman. Had personal experience with both and was very disappointed with both. I have always heard great things about Ms Monica not sure about the rest.

These list have really changed since my children were in these grades. My children didn't have him, but the parents who did liked Mike French.

all I can tell you is I wouldn't send my worst enemies child to Mike french.... yes he maybe good at the academics side of teaching( which is important) but if your so stuck in a 'got to be this way' and not bendable , kids get hurt.. plus he really likes to spank kids for some of the most slight things. If your child is adhd please mark french off your list,, your child will suffer. You may say I sound a bit bitter but with three kids in school we have had a lot of teachers to deal with ,, And Mike french is the only teacher I wish I could redo and never have had to deal with... My child is a good student always honor roll ( yeah) not a demon, just horns bent. Ands it not just my child I saw him hurt emotional, but other kids in the class. I always wondered what he was seeing thru his eyes. So take it with a grain ,, And I hope who ever youget it all works out
O yeah i know people will be coming on here saying how wonderful he is ,, thats great ,, your child wasn't one that was targeted by him.. Your lucky

I have also had dealings with Mr. French. He is a bit out there. I would not pick him either.

This is off the subject but wanted to other parents know about this. My child has a medical problem that she kept getting in trouble for. The teacher was aware of her dignosis. I had to go get a 504 form filled out stating that she could not get in trouble for asking to go to the bathroom. If your child is having any kinds of personal problems at school Please go online and check about the 504 form. It will make all the difference in the world. I just wish parents where made aware of it. Hope this can help someone.

Mr. French is strict and has his own way of doing things but he never spanked any child in my son's class last year and I don't know of any teachers that spank....if believe Mr. Cupples the VicePrincipal would do that if it is done.

But if academics is important to you and your child doesn't have behavior problems then he is a good choice. Strict but willing to listen.

I also wanted to add this. When we moved here I thought it was strange that you get a choice about teachers. I guess sometimes it is a good thing but sometimes it is not because it is not hard to find someone who didn't get along with even the best of teachers.

Sometimes personalities clash between parents and teachers and kids and teachers. You can hear something bad about them all. I know, unfortunately that doesn't make choosing any easier.

I always try to keep in mind that all teachers must love kids or they would not have gone into that line of work. It is a stressful and difficult job that they do not get paid enough to do. I beleive that any teacher will want to help with anything you may have problems with if you approach them calmly and reasonably. Oh, and I have also learned to not automatically believe everything a child says about his teacher Children have a different perception of things and sometimes things need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Thanks for all the info everyone! I also thought it was a little weird that you get to "pick" the teacher, but you actually get to check 9 out of the 12 and in no particular order, so I really don't see the necessity of the Teacher preference form. I did however appreciate the input, so at least I know what to expect next year.

I would also like to add for other parents that my child had Mrs. Edye Heathcott for Kindergarten and she was awesome. He was also very lucky to have Mrs. Melinda George the last 2 years(1st and 2nd grades) and she is wonderful. I am a very active parent and it is important to me to have a teacher that doesn't mind phone calls to school and home if necessary and each of these ladies were more than concerned with my childs performance and behavior. Thank you both for a wonderful job!!!!!

Mrs. Alford was my sons teacher last year. SHE IS AWSOME...SWEETEST LADY YOU WILL EVER MEET!!!!! My son still stops by her room to talk to her after class sometimes...that is how much he thinks of her.

um, avoid ms. putman at all cost. the woman has no grasp of proper syntax and mispronounces simple words in the science textbook. for instance "embryo'(pronounced EHM-BREE-oh) becomes "embryo" (pronounced EM-BROH). "tuber" (pronounced TOO-burr) becomes "tuber" (pronounced TUH-burr). she also loses her temper frequently and is inconsistent... i know from experience. she also can't handle gifted kids. trust me I would know.

You would have to be crazy to send your child to DIS to begin with. Just send them to the ghetto instead because its about the same.

I had a child in Carmie Newsome's class when she taught 2nd grade. My child had a wonderful year, and loves Ms Carmie dearly.

First I would like to say I have met Ms Carmie Newsome, Amiee Putnam and Monica Alford. They are wonderful human beings and excellent teaching professionals. I have not had the pleasure to meet the other teachers, however I have heard nothing but wonderful things about them. I wish the teachers who have received negative feedback from some of you had the same opportunity to express their feedback about you and your professional effectiveness in a very personal manner in a very public forum. I am the person I am today because of many professional educators who made it a "personal mission" to ensure I had the necessary skills to achieve my highest aspirations. These teachers are our greatest asset. We will never survive as a society without them. We are not losing ground to global competition because of our teachers. They are the only process we have in place that is keeping us competitive with the rest of the world . If you are displeased with the state of our educational system,(1) register to vote (2)call your state legislator and voice your opinion (3)vote with an informed opinion .. most importantly visit your child's classroom and get involved. You have to realize how difficult it is to teach before you can criticize.

I have volunteered 2 days a week in the classroom for over half of the year. It's when I was no longer able to come anymore that all my trouble started with my son's teacher. Had to go get a medical form stating that she could not take away his playtime for his medicial problem. She has known about his problem all year long and gave us no trouble until I had to quit coming. I know being a teacher is stressful but don't take it out on the good kids.

My son had a good year in Mr. French's class. Ms. Newsom is across the hall from him and my son was wanting in her room. I never heard bad things about any of these teachers.
