So, I may have a new job inside Dyersburg. I am moving from Cookeville. Is there any comparison or is it a smaller place? Should I even bother taking the job offer or no? I am being a little cautious moving to a new area.

Turn back why you can this is not where you want to be. What job are you taking? Hope it isn't one at Heco! To save you the time and hassel just stay where you are. You'll thank me in the long run.

If I lived in Cookeville I would stay unless the Dyersburg job paid $10,000 more than what your are now getting.

Personally on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest I would probably put Cookeville (if we are comparing these two towns only) at about 8-9and Dyersburg at about 6-7.

I have been to both Cookeville and Dyersburg and if given a choice I would pick Cookeville.

Nothing but methheads and corrupt politics in Dyersburg. Stay where you're at.

Don't move unless you're already addicted to meth. And, in that case, you'll fit in just fine. And I couldn't imagine a job in Dyersburg worth moving for anyway.

Welcome to Dyersburg! I have lived here for many years and I like it! What are you looking for in a town? One thing for sure you must like your job before anything else so good luck.

This town is superficially friendly but downright unfriendly in reality. No activities,no culture,no recreation unless you duck hunt. There is nothing to do and no one to do it with. Housing is as expensive as Memphis and more expensive than Jackson. Schools are average for Tennessee. Cost of living is 95% of Memphis. No real break there.Only move if it pays big bucks and you can get out of town on weekends and every other chance you get.
so what

Would you chose to move into the pit of hell? If not then I suggest running as far in the opposite direction as you possibly can!

All the other posters running Dyersburg down are most likely meth/drug heads themselves, and that's all they know. Don't listen to them. Dyersburg doesn't have any issues that any other city doesn't have. There are a lot of good people in the Dyersburg area, your experience Living in Dyersburg will be according to the company you keep, if you are a worthless meth head, then that's the crowd you'll hang with. If you are a good person, there are plenty of good folks in Dyersburg to associate with. I have spent a lot of time in the cookeville/Monterey area and it seems to have the same issues these crackheads are complaining about. Cookeville does have more shopping and recreational activities in or close by than Dyersburg. You have to take into consideration Cookeville is a college town, and Dyersburg is not. Dyersburg is my home so I may be a little partial, but I do love the cookeville area, has all the major stores, and lots of recreation, camping, hiking, parks and things within easy driving distance.

Personally, if I were you, I would take the information from this little forum to heart and tell the person offering me the job to suck my big fatty. I would stay out of West Tennessee altogether. Compared to many places surrounding Jackson, Dyersburg is downright cosmopolitan. That should tell you how ass-backwards those places are.

Do not come here for any amount of money. Cookeville is utopia compared to Dyersburg. There is nothing here. We are at least 3 hours away from anything you would want to do in every direction.

Moving here would be the biggest mistake of your life. Don't do it.

Dyersburg is a bad place, it didn't use to be. I move back because it was always home, then I remember why I left and gtfo again. The ones defending Dburg either don't get out, don't pay attention, or just don't know what it's like elsewhere. Other cities have problems but they usually have a lot more people and its wider spread, it can not be escaped here.
