Joe has been with Pine Crest since 2001, recruited after the tragedy of September 11th. Campus security at Pine Crest includes a uniformed campus force consisting of an Assistant Director, Chief and 16 officers including a bicycle patrol, golf cart patrol, Segway patrol and one marked patrol unity, providing 24/7 coverage to the 50 acre campus. Prior to his position at Pine Crest, Joe was the Director of Transportation and Safety for the Dyer County Public School System in Dyersburg, Tennessee for 14 years. Joe graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy, completed Police Officer Survival School and completed training in Criminal Investigation. He was a Business Administration major and Criminal Justice minor at Dyersburg State. Joe has assisted the White House Staff and the Secret Service Agency with the security of President Clinton, Vice President Al Gore, and assisted with the protection detail during the visit of both Governor Rick Scott and Congressman Allen West to the Pine Crest campus in 2010. Joe serves on the Graduate Studies Advisory Board of Keiser University and the Broward County Sheriff’s Foundation.

This rumor is ridiculous. He doesn't even live here anyway and looks to me like y'all are stalking him down and just stirring up a mess. It's probably started by a jealous law enforcement department in fear of their jobs for not solving all of the large crimes the last 3 years now. If we can't prosecute and solve Karen Swift 's murder, all of the theft break ins and vandalism all over the county, then why do we need Barney and his crew now? They should be scared that anybody else may run bc they'd all be looking for a new job. There is more to do and clean up out in our county than trying to focus on trying to catch hard working people on their way home swerving from being tired hoping to catch a DUI or, pulling people over just to test tint and other stupid stuff. Stop all the theft and stop letting all the meth heads come in and out of jail marking on each other.

Joe was indeed at Dyer County when the county employees were using equipment, etc. and he is the one who blew the whistle. He does it by the book, like it or not.
He did go through a divorce, as do many, and it is no one's business but his and his ex-wife's. He is the first to tell you he made mistakes and takes full responsibility for them, unlike most. He and his ex communicate well and have raised two successful children, one who served his country in Iraq and is a manager with a large industry in Alabama and one who is in grad school completing her degree. She went to the Private school in Florida where he was recruited 12 years ago.
They now have grandchildren.
Joe has been remarried for 9 or more years to a successful Doctor of Education and she is now as of a few years ago the President and CEO of the school. She was also recognized as one of Broward Counties top successful business women and is on numerous boards throughout Florida as is Joe.
Joe travels throughout the country and is one of the leading experts on school security.
He has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal and has received much recognition and awards for his abilities in school security. He also works closely with law enforcement in South Florida and is on the Sheriff's board there.
Joe keeps in touch with his friends and is in Dyersburg often. He still calls it home. He told me that he may someday entertain the possibility of running for Sheriff, but it would be a while.
Joe and his wife have owned a home in Dyer County for years as he travels back regularly to take care of his parents. His mother passed a couple of years ago.
They are now building a house on his family farm but are not coming back permanently anytime soon, but do plan to come back to semi-retire.
He would make one of the best Sheriff's and he would blow Box or anyone else out of the water. It's unfortunate for us he won't be running.

It's sad that Joe is not running. He would be a great Sheriff and would clean the county up.
There are good men and women at the dept. They need a good leader with proven leadership. The few lazy ones would either get with the program, or they would go.

In my opinion, the current Sheriff's Dept lacks STRUCTURE! Too many political favors are being repaid. Ask any deputy...if they stop or ticket a
lawbreaker, the lawbreaker usually has Box on speed dial. If the deputies can't count on the administration to back and support them, they will feel a bit frustrated and lost! I've NEVER known of anyone who is more of a headline hound than Box is! He calls in the paper at his whim, and all he wants is his picture on the frontpage! Had he not shot off his mouth at the beginning of the Swift investigation, the current investigators might have solved it by now! Remember, it is EASY to get a person indicted, but it's VERY difficult to get a conviction unless all the t's are crossed!

I was with Joe this weekend in Dyersburg. He and his wife sold their house near Finley and are building a new one where he grew up on his farm.
Joe has always called Dyer County his home and has been clear on his intentions of someday moving back. He has been here once every month or so and spends Summer months and Christmas here.
He is not coming back to run for Sheriff here any time soon. Why would he when he is so successful where he is? It's just a rumor folkes.......but if it wasn't, he'd have my vote!

I am a friend and fan of Joe and his absolutely darling, beautiful and extremely successful wife! They are in town frequently visiting and taking care of his father and family property as well as visiting with friends. I would LOVE to see them come back to call us "home" and take over as Sheriff of our county and Danna would be the best blessing to ever walk into either central office (completely over qualified). Just one of these possibilities would make me have restored faith in the craziness surrounding our children's future here with all of our problems in the area. Joe is a successful young man by his own hard work and not by ever stepping on the heads of others. If he ever decides to retire early and get back this way, I see a landslide election if he ran for sheriff.

It's hard to beat an incumbent, Jeff Holt proved that. If he had not went to the US Marshall's Office he would still be sheriff now.. The only way this man could have a chance would be to move back here, make a name for himself and run in 2018. we'll see I guess.. I don't know this man and have not heard of anything Box has done to hurt his chances of being re elected..

It is obvious that the groundwork is being laid for a possible run for sheriff. The comments read like a press release.

I am not a diplomat, and, as such, I am not fully conversant with the elegant and rarefied language of the diplomatic trade. I have a reputation for saying what I mean and meaning what I say. So I trust that you'll forgive me if I come across as a bit blunt when I state that in debates with Dyer County, it is important to evaluate whether its provocations reflect a sincere desire to present an alternative point of view or whether its agenda is primarily to break up society's solidarity and cohesiveness. To begin with, this is not the first time I've wanted to induce it to perceive its errors of perception and judgment and make it realize that my vision is built on the future, not the past. But it is the first time I realized that it is doubtlessly up to something. I don't know exactly what, but Dyer County's lamentations are complete drivel. But there is a further-reaching implication: Many innocent people are being manipulated into pooh-poohing the concerns of others by the most sickening display of foolish cant that I have ever witnessed in my entire life. When asked to mend its ways, Dyer County will give people a wink and a smile, but when the wheels begin to turn, it's business as usual.

As you can see, I wouldn't judge Dyer County's confreres too harshly. They're just cannon fodder for Dyer County's plot to manipulate public understanding of savagism. Terrorism, colonialism, and larrikinism follow Dyer County's footsteps. Wherever it goes, such things are sure to sprout up. The implication is that Dyer County's unbalanced, peccable announcements have caused malodorous Huns to descend upon us like a swarm of locusts, causing this country to flounder on the shoals of self-interest, corruption, and chaos.

My sources tell me that Dyer County intends to relabel millions of people as "militant" in a lustrum or two. Not on my watch! I am therefore calling upon all good citizens to advocate concrete action and specific quantifiable goals. If we don't transform our culture of war and violence into a culture of peace and nonviolence, then Dyer County will soon become unstoppable. No borders will be able to detain it. No united global opinion will be able to isolate it. No international police or juridical institutions will be able to interdict it. Since Dyer County claims to know more than the rest of us, I'm sure it's aware that I want to speak up and speak out against it. I want to do this not because I need to tack another line onto my résumé but because far too many people tolerate its hatchet jobs as long as they're presented in small, seemingly harmless doses. What these people fail to realize, however, is that Dyer County avers that anyone who disagrees with it is ultimately philopolemical. As you can no doubt determine from comments like that, facts and Dyer County are like oil and water. That's all I have to say about Dyer County so I guess I'll stop writing now. Oh, and Dyer County: Before you start formulating a smart reply, don't bother because I'm just not interested.
