I've filed for unemployment last month and I'm still waiting for a check or a credit. They sent me a Chase Card so I think I was accepted, and it's active, but they haven't added anything to it! Does anyone here have experience in this and tell me how long I'm supposed to wait?

Our story:

My girlfriend lost her job on 10/11 and filed that day. Finally got through at about 6 weeks. They told us to call back when it had been 8 weeks. We got through today. It has been 10 weeks. We both started calling the hotline at about 7:58. We both got through to someone. Lady said since it had been 10 weeks she would flag it to a supervisor. 5 hours later she went from pending status to approved!

Basically we found out you have to start calling right before they open to have any hope of getting through to someone. Also, they really can't do anything until you have been waiting 8 weeks. The lady said the adjudicors are 8-10 weeks behind due to the high volume of unemployed people. Hopefully we will get the check on the next few days.

Good luck to everyone going through this. I know how difficult it is. We have almost lost everything. I hope I was able to help some of you. Good luck!

Some of you people are evil as hell trying to make people feel like shit for being unemployed. Shit happens and no one in their right mind wants to be unemployed because its a horrible feeling especially when most people had comfortable lives before they were unemployed. To say these people should have not created families is mean. Most people had children and created families way before their situation came about. All u evil people will reap what you sow because one day you will feel the stress. Struggle and depression that they feel. When that day comes the last thing you want is to be belittled. Know that just because you have a job today does not mean you cannot be replaced. Please know you are not irreplaceable. Im only 24 and have more sense and more open minded than you old no life prunes.

Myself personally I've been waiting a little over 3 months to get my unemployment benefits. Been looking for jobs nothing hiring in a 40 mile radius of me and bills are past due. Makes me wonder how many people abuse the system and hurts the rest of us around the world. Got laid off my last job and never had to file for unemployment till then. But I guess that's life gotta fall before you can learn to walk.

You can go to an approved program up to 2 years if you can show that you left your job of no fault of your own, and can't find adequate work without further training. Check out section 30 in Massachusetts. Every state has a similar program. They even give you additional weeks after extended benefits run out.

Just letting you know that just because you receive a card DOES NOT mean your approved. My husband received his card and then found out he was denied two weeks later. The card is just an automated thing they do when you file. SORRY:(

It is really hard to read your message. Are you really that stupid or do you want people to feel sorry for you?

I've was terminated on November 21, 2013 I filed a claim the next day. I've received three letters in the mail asking a few questions for the months of December and November. I had my phone interview in December. I've tried calling but of course I'm not able to get through. My question is how long is the process to hear anything or know your status?

When I got laid off due to a plant closing I got my first check within 2- 3 weeks. Now because you have to sign up online or by phone it takes forever! How the hell does the state expect people to pay their bills and feed their family? Or do they care?

They have closed many of the unemployment offices (they now call them 'career centers'- yeah, a lot of people go there for 'careers) and even the ones still open tell you they can't even access your case or information!

This is ridiculous! If the state is behind they need to work OT or put extra help in the department. People cannot wait 8- 12 weeks for a check!

signed up on the 8th, done my weekly certifications, and still no check. does the state think all people can survive 2-3 weeks without money
I signed up for my husband's online and everything was good to go according to what the message said. When I applied the 2nd week the first week had not been recorded yet so be careful with enrolling online as you start, it doesn't work even though it says no other information needed at this time. He has been without a paycheck since January 3rd. Hello...... Who knows when he will get a check going forward????? MLK does not help the situation this week~grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Still make the phone call even if you go online to register for the first week of claims, I learned the hard way, it was never recorded.

I live in Tennessee and filed on October 28 2013. I still haven't heard ANYTHING. Every time I call to check the status, I get the recording that "A determination has not yet been decided, please continue to certify each week....Good Bye."
..........
I also sent 4 emails to the 'Contact Us' link on the Tennessee Unemployment web site and received 4 email confirmations stating that a representative would be contacting me within 5-7 business days. Well, no one has contacted me yet. I'm wondering if I will ever get any of my benefits due me. As of today, I am owed for 12 weeks (over $3,000). I don't know what else to do.
..........
I read on another site where someone had contacted their State Representative regarding their unpaid unemployment benefits and it worked for them, so I decided to try this route as well. I looked up my Representative http://www.capitol.tn.gov/legislators/ and sent him an email explaining my situation. I will update if it works.
..........
Below is a sample of the email I sent. If you want to contact your State Representative, you can 'Copy & Paste' it to an email, then modify it to your own situation and send.(the dots .......... show where I started a new paragraph. Remove these after you paste it.)
..........
..........
Dear xxxxxx;
..........
I am writing to you because you are my state Representative and I need your help. I lost my job on October 28, 2013 and filed for unemployment a few days later. I was told that it would take 3-4 weeks to receive my first check and that I needed to certify each week to continue receiving benefits.
..........
It has been 12 weeks since I filed and every time I call the Unemployment Office in Nashville to check on the status of my claim, I am told by a recording that "A decision has not been made at this time. Please continue to certify each week". Then they say "Good Bye" and hang up.
..........
I have also sent 4 emails to them inquiring about the status of my claim and received 4 email confirmations stating that someone will respond within 5-7 business days. I waited at least 10 days after each email I sent before sending another, hoping someone would call. So far, no one has responded to any of my requests. No letter, no email or phone call. I am really concerned as to why it is taking so long, but more concerning is why no one has called me back.
..........
The past unemployment payments due me total $3,240 ($270 week x 12 weeks) and I haven't received anything yet, nor any explanation as to why. Could you please check on this and let me know what you find out? My unemployment info is below.
..........
Thank you for your time.
..........
Sincerely, xxxxxxxxx
..........
(I then copied and pasted the 'View Benefits' info from 'my account' on the unemployment website, showing how much I'm entitled to, maximum payout, date employment ended, etc...)
..........
Good Luck.
