Employers put money into unemployment insurance fund that does not come from an employees check, so no, they dont work for it

I have visited several sites tonight before coming across this one. My mission was to help my wife find some, if any information she needs being unemployed herself. It's really sad to read some of the post on here. It seems alot of posts are similar. I was unemployed for 13 months. Unemployment is a joke in Florida. I constantly argued with them over the phone while receiving benefits. They DO NOT CARE about you. They do not care if you're losing everything, homeless, or if your kids can't eat. Several post say, get a job....don't rely on unemployment. Well, I'm here to tell you, I have been trained in many areas. I have many years experience in what I do. I have supervised many people, I have awards for going above and beyond, I have great customer service skills, I'm certified in everything and continued to learn, and forgot more than others can remember. I didn't want to be unemployed. I'm no mr. Mom. I tried for 13 months to get a job until getting the one I got in September 2012. So, was it easy for me? No. I hated my life during that time. Now, I see my wife going through the same thing I did. We were just beginning to catch up when she was laid off in February. Now we are beginning to feel the pain of it all again. Her story differs from mine though. She was approved for unemployment benefits but has nit received it yet. When she calls that joke of a number and finally gets a real person on the phone they #1 treat her like she's trash and #2 tell her it will be 1-14 days. 1-14 days has been what she's heard since February. Its a joke! By the way, when you call these morons, they don't know what they are doing. They have supposedly been hired by the state to handle this. They are a call center that supposedly are not employees of Florida unemployment system. For all of you who are unemployed now, I'll pray that America will finally help their own country out instead of others first.

I have been waiting for 6 weeks - they said the first week I got paid (because I was terminated in the middle of the week), but then they said the second week was a waiting period. What is this waiting period? And if that is the only waiting period, why haven't I been paid for the other 4 weeks? The last time I was on unemployment, I was unemployed for 3 months, before I saw one check. I don't think the problem has to do with money or manpower - it has to do with the State trying to save money by holding off as much as possible, while we suffer.

...Also, I had to go onto Cobra insurance, because of a preexisting medical condition (no insurance company would take me). I tried to get Medi-Cal, but they would not take me, because I would stand to make too much money from unemployment. They can't have it both ways - either they give the money, or they provide the insurance, because they aren't giving the money.

I was laid off on Wednesday and get a job on Friday. Join a union. Any union! Get paid as an apprentice and work a few years to get back up. I never got my check and coulda used it for the time I was off plus I make $3 less an hour than I did previously so I capsule of used it. Quit being LAZY and get a job, any job. If You have to work hard for a new company at a low wage then do it until you work yourself up to a better position. Stop with the sense of entitlement and do what you have to do. Unemployment checks aren't forever so use that time and actually do something for your future.
funny coming from a union worker..they are they are the lazy and very entitled. they milk public works projects dry. ive seen the same guy in the same ditch for weeks not doing anything but double fisting donuts. an open shop would have had that ditch completed in no time. theres good reason unions are dying..most are just sitting in the union hall being lazy!

Just wait and be patience. Have any one call last contact telling them you are hurting for money ? Tell them that you are a emergency case. Things are going down hill for you. Believe it or not unemployment can get money to you a lot faster. When you do get your money it will be all at once and than you can do what you have to do to get caught up. Hope that this help all. Bye

WOW! How heart breaking to hear all the negative remarks. I'm a social worker by degree and was laid off work, single mother of two with rent to pay. I will not be able to manage with $400. A week, REALLY! It has been three weeks for me and Iam yet to receive any notice from "unemployment". I haven't been able to get a live person on the phone but by the looks of it I might as well pick up a late night job ;)

I agree there has to be a balance when it comes to entitlements but I cant understand how can people be so cruel and degrate those in need.

Unemployment doesn't answer me soon and Im unable to find work you bet your bottom ass I will be at the WELFARE line how the hell does society expect for us to survive. Iam going to get back those 20 years of my tax paying ass.

I was let go from work on August 16th for being sick and missing a few days, I even had a doctors note. It is tough out there to find a job and my unemployment is still pending as well. I know that they are backed up at the unemployment offices across the country. But what do they expect people to do, just not pay there bills or even eat. If they are that backed up, why are they not hiring? They cant really expect people to wait up to 8 weeks and just bait on people to find a job. Doesnt work that way. Economy is going to hell, but yet people unemployed get treated like garbage. Doesnt make any sence!!
are you chronic sick? if so than you should have went on disability. if you're sick you can't work. why do unemployment? the will probably deny your case because it was due to illness. I would call my old human resource department and see if you qualified for that. Good luck.

@get real. workers do not pay dime for unemployment. it is an insurance (basically a buisness tax) that is paid solely by the company that the worker is employed at. only thing workers pay are taxes and social security and maybe health insurance.
You sir are wrong the company only pays in a minimal ammount the workers input an amount and it is decided by unemployment the amount you get back from a sum.of what you and the company have put in per week also how long you can draw is dependent on the total sum this is how the entire system works. Get your facts before posting garbage.

Dude you have no clue. People near me can't even get a job at McDonald's because its so many people in the DC area that have been fired for next to nothing or laid off. Something needs to be done. I went by the u/I office and saw people with eviction notices and shut off notices and was told to be patient and call after 21 business days. So while you get told no, sorry we not hiring constantly what are people suppose to do? How can they feed they kids when SNAP office and utility companies won't do anything while you wait for a check. It's sad and folks wonder why people breaking in houses. They trying feed their family

DC is very slow. 4 weeks and counting...rent is now late, lights about to be turned off and the aftercare office wants their payment for the month because I had to go to the job center and stay until 4 pm when I was laid off. It truly sucks.

that situation truly sucks, but if someone broke into my home i would have no choice but to shoot. i have to protect my family. seriously, people need to buy a box of condoms or not have sex..stop creating families that YOU cannot feed. dont people see how overpopulation is a problem? there arent enough job and resources to go around, but its only the smart people who get that. its the dumb ones who are overpopulating and breeding more dumb ones who are going to do the same thing..its such a shame!

Every person's situation is different. If a person has always worked and finds themselves layed off or terminated due to the economy, there is no shame in drawing unemployment. I have drawn it before and then I got tired of not working and not having money, so I found a job. There isn't always a job to be found or a job that pays more than you can draw. I was very fortunate to find a good job at the right time.
