My husband has been drawing umemployment since Oct 08 and the checks are the most prompt thing we have ever dealt with. However there was some issues in signing up.... I will share with you how it worked for him.....
If the 1st week you were out of work was the week of Feb 1, you should have signed up by Feb 5th in order for that to be your waiting week. If you signed up on the 8th then the week of the 8th is your waiting week. Then you would be due a check for the week of the 15th. the 15th was a holiday so the checks were a day or two late last week. If you laid off for 4 consecutive weeks you will get paid for the 1st week (waiting week). There was some misinformation between my husband's employer and the unemployment office concerning when to initially sign up. Once we worked through that the checks have been coming regularly.

If the 1st week you are due a check is the week of the 15th, that is the check you will get after doing the weekly certification today. You can call the unemployment office and they can tell you when the 1st check is being mailed.

I recently got laid off myself. Signed up for unemployment on May 21st. Finally got through to the 800 number after trying for over a week. They said that it can take up to 8 weeks to make a decision on unemployment. You will NOT get any back pay. How are you supposed to live for 2+ months without any income?

The state doesnt care they are not the ones trying to find a job that isnt there anymore. They are not the ones trying to survive. They are not the ones getting behind on their bills, loosing their homes and starving or relying on family for help. Its sad that we have to live like this now. What about people that needs their medicine what are they to do especially if theu have to wait 8 weeks. Lord help this nation because we need it.

If you have not been denied, the first week is a waiting week, once you start it should be weekly.
If you do it on-line it is easier for you to keep track of it all, because you can pull it up on-line and see it.

It took me 2 weeks to get my 1st one. They are in no hurry. Unless YOU owe them, then you better pay them today.

I am going back and forth with unemployment about getting my money. I have been waiting for a check since 11/2010.My appeal was reversed the middle of march and the call center reps in florida have no idea whats going on with a claim and they dont give a damn to research information at all they are the least sympathetic about what is going on in one's life. To anyone that is having trouble in florida with these rude ass reps in the call center, call tallahassee they will get you to the right people that knows about your claim. It works trust me.

I find it hilarious that the person who said would probably be easier to just get a job left his name as guest instead of manning up and posting a name. For your information I worked at the same compnay since I was 19 years old I am now 40 and my company closed. I am definately not someone who does not want to work. I have never drawn an unemployment check in my life until now! I have learned that normally people who make stupid comments are the ones in the situation that they are actually commenting about! Besides why would you be on a site talking about when will they get their unemployment check if your not waiting on yours too??? Just sayin!

really !? the government ? unemployment is money that a worker paid into and is their money, the employer also pays so much into it.

@get real. workers do not pay dime for unemployment. it is an insurance (basically a buisness tax) that is paid solely by the company that the worker is employed at. only thing workers pay are taxes and social security and maybe health insurance.

I have been waiting too. I got my card in the mail two weeks ago, but still no deposit. Will I get the money from the day I was layed off?

i was just laid off and am trying to collect until i find something.. i am from out of state and military and in my field it's hard to find people to hire you because you will leave and they know it's part of the situation.. however, i have a friend in houston who places people for jobs and has been told my various people that they make more on unemployment than if they took the job she offered.. or that they prefer to stay home and collect.. So when people make comments about finding jobs don't take it personal, there are people out there that take advantage of everything.. cause they think it's owed to them

The reason I believe some of us took it personally was the tone of the comment that was used. I agree some people would rather just sit at home and "Do Nothing" and be paid for it but for those of us who truely want to work and the unemployment were receiving doesn't even begin to help pay our bills or even come close to what we were making at our jobs it is very disrespectful. That being said....I would like to personally thank you for your military service and let you know that I'm glad you are safe at home here in the states!
There are jobs

Look at the third post. Been collecting since 2008.
Three years and you can't find a job, that's system abuse..Nobody will hand you the perfect job. There are lots of jobs. Maybe not exactly what you want, but you have to walk before you run.
Some people are spoiled and think they are too good to take a job at less money than they made after working someplace for 20 yrs. While you are on the computer reading "Topix" you could be looking for a job instead of looking in the mailbox. Man or woman up..get out of your pajamas and get looking..Unemployment and Disability, the most abused government resources.
