What do people really expect?? Have any of you ever attended a school function at Finley? Boy, there are some winners in that gene pool!!!! The principle tells the students and parents to "Please stay seated", and immediately 90% of Finley's finest jumps up and starts running around. Be proud that they somehow managed to get dressed and make it to school, that in itself, is an accomplishment.

Maybe, just maybe, y'all "law enforcement personnel" (term used loosely) should join forces, and band together to find Karen Swift's murderer? I mean, seriously, ticketing a woman for taking her kid to school??! C'mon now... Is Dyer County REALLY THAT boring? If there isn't anything better y'all could be doing with your time, maybe the powers that be should decrease the number of officers twiddling their thumbs on any given shift!! If this is the WORST mistake this woman makes, she's doing alright! And as far as "seizing their 4-wheelers"... Can the Dept not afford their own 4-wheelers?? I'm sure you guys were anxious to show off your "mount me" hats, but I'm sure y'all could have put an Ad with a picture in the State Gazette detailing them. I hear they're hard up for stories lately!!
No. Ticketing a woman for ridng her kid to school on an ATV on the roads.

On Wednesday morning, Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers were at Finley Elementary promoting the use of child-passenger restraint devices. Troopers were checking to make sure parents were using the proper safety equipment while transporting their children to school.
Shortly before classes began, one woman drove into the school's drop-off zone on a four-wheeler. She dropped her child off and was stopped by the troopers
Not only is there a law about ATV's on the street. She drove up to the school on one while troopers are there to check proper safety equipment while transportingte hri kids to school. Oh, the irony. that would be like going to drug court with a joint in your mouth. Real smart.
Does the school bus have seat belts for all passengers, or just the driver?

Can we leave this mother alone. She taking care of her kids. More than what I can say about half the mothers in this town. She got her kid to school. Your kid can only miss so many days. And if she is in the same boat as me, she can't let her kid miss any more days or she be in court about that. And before you start asking why my kid miss so many days, it's because it was a bad winter. With all the stomach bugs and flu's. As I read the comments on this tread. You can tell which ones are good mother and which ones are part time mothers who are putting on an act as mother of the year.

Just the DRIVER! That's my point exactly! What's the difference in a kid riding the bus, and a Mom taking them on an ATV! Neither have safety belts. My child is safer with ME than he/she is with a stranger who just drives the bus. Not knocking bus drivers by no means, but when it's YOUR kid your driving, you tend to think a little differently! The extent I would go to to protect my child, may be different than what YOU would do to protect MY child! Get over yourselves! Ya'll are acting like this is the worst thing you've ever seen or heard of. "**GASP**" Newsflash people... You do what you gotta do for your kids! If she was standing in Truancy Court for NOT finding a way to get her child to school, ya'll would be sitting here talking about how she's a deadbeat mom that can't even manage to get her kid to school. Damned if she does, and damned if she don't! Ya'll would find something to b*tch and moan about either way! Move the f*ck on, and find some REAL news to talk about!!

The school sends home a truancy letter threatening truancy court, even if your child has doctor's excuses. I, along with other parents, have received one. My child only misses school when it's absolutely necessary. Still, they sent one home.

Unfortunately, you had to hit a road and the cops were there.

State gazzette is so lame for printing this. They have nothing better to report? Do they record every time someone gets a traffic ticket? They are not truely news reporters if all they can come up to report is this lame story.

I have never ever received a truancy letter for my child staying home with the flu. Last school year she was out three days in a row for flu and the school didn't bat an eyelash. I did some research of the Tennessee educational board and in some counties truancy is an issue only after missing school in upwards of 15 days in a row. This county is pretty loose on their truancy standards, not sure what the real problem here is folks. Lots of excuses and lame arguments and off point subjects and weird defense claims to justify wrongs. No one gets a truancy letter for their kid being out one day and can provide a doc note. Get real. You're either lying so you can try to look cool and fit in or you a lousy parent who can't get their baby to school on time or at all and you finally got busted. This whole thing is ludicrous and tacky.

I just think it is admirable that she was getting her kid to school. We don't have a taxi service around here anymore. LE should be ashamed. She was trying to do the right thing. If she were on horseback would they have cited her? Or would they have stopped her for some trivial "law". "Horse hockey on school property".. This is just stupid that she was even stopped.

WHY Do you have to get all Brody on me? You are the one that took the kid on a 4wheeler on a road to school. Unless you aren't aware..........you shouldn't do that. especially when the cops are at the school. You break a law. You suffer the consequences. Live and learn.
