More comparable to not wearing a seatbelt or not using a turn signal, even not having your child in a carseat. But rape and robbery are morally wrong. It's the difference in doing something you know is wrong and something that the states says is wrong. Dont come at me with "we should follow every law the state makes". The Germans did that once.

Seriously ppl! As long as the children were wearing a helmet and they were traveling a safe speed the police should not have gotten involved. It's no different than riding a 4wheeler outside school hours. Only difference this time is some yuppie parent moved out to the sticks and called the police bc they felt it wasn't socially acceptable. And if the child was not wearing a helmet or she was wreckless then the officer was negligent as well as the mother bc he didnt site her for worse. I'm just ashamed our newspaper found this newsworthy

On Wednesday morning, Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers were at Finley Elementary promoting the use of child-passenger restraint devices. Troopers were checking to make sure parents were using the proper safety equipment while transporting their children to school.

Shortly before classes began, one woman drove into the school's drop-off zone on a four-wheeler. She dropped her child off and was stopped by the troopers

Not only is there a law about ATV's on the street. She drove up to the school on one while troopers are there to check proper safety equipment while transportingte hri kids to school. Oh, the irony. that would be like going to drug court with a joint in your mouth. Real smart.

"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' BECAUSE LAW IS OFTEN BUT THE TYRANT'S WILL, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual."

- Thomas Jefferson

Just because it is a law, does not make it right. Here, the law was the tyrant's will. The mother's actions violated no one's rights.

Here we have a government school, with government troopers enforcing child restraint laws in front of the school. The parents had no other choice than to submit to this seizure. No better way to teach young children the supremacy of the police state than to have a THP roadblock at school.

In the big scheme of things, what harm did it do for this child to ride with her mother to school? Our ancestors walked to school. Children also traveled on horseback, in a buckboard wagon and later on bicycles with ...*gasp*... no child restraint seating!!!!

We were once free. We are no more.

I see this happening all the time down there. Parents picking up there kids from school on a 4 Wheeler. I don't see anything wrong with it. And if the cops are going to set up shop at Finley school to make sure the kids are in the right car seat, then why haven't they been to every school in Dyer Co. And they should of did it the same day. Instead if 8 cops at one school. They should of had one or two cops at every school. If you going to do job, do it right. Not half ass. Just sayin.

I think its a shame that no one has nothing better to do then start such a thread. What was wrong about carrying kids to school on a 4 wheeler, at least she was takeing them to school. Alot of parents let their kids stay home, become dumb, so they can draw a check for the rest of their life.
Seriously people, arent there more important things to worry and complain about in finley besides this.
Honestly, I think the poster who started this thread is an ole nosey body that should get out more often and realize,' Hey, theres a whole new big world out here'!
As far as the cops getting involved, well, what else do you expect from govt agents?
Freedom, is only an illusion. We are now liveing in a police state, and sadly, I dont see it getting any better.
For those of you that say its the law and all laws should be followed. Tell that to the realitives of six million Jews.
Just bc its the law doesnt make it right.

Maybe, just maybe, y'all "law enforcement personnel" (term used loosely) should join forces, and band together to find Karen Swift's murderer? I mean, seriously, ticketing a woman for taking her kid to school??! C'mon now... Is Dyer County REALLY THAT boring? If there isn't anything better y'all could be doing with your time, maybe the powers that be should decrease the number of officers twiddling their thumbs on any given shift!! If this is the WORST mistake this woman makes, she's doing alright! And as far as "seizing their 4-wheelers"... Can the Dept not afford their own 4-wheelers?? I'm sure you guys were anxious to show off your "mount me" hats, but I'm sure y'all could have put an Ad with a picture in the State Gazette detailing them. I hear they're hard up for stories lately!!
