A Newbern Police officer was relieved of duty on Friday for reportedly falsifying his time sheets after the department began an internal affairs investigation into the matter.

if this is true. should everything and everyone he has ever arrested, given a ticket be suspect that he lied?

how many innocent people are in jail for cops like this.

Harold said he was afraid of retaliation from the mayor's office due to the mayor and Hamilton being friends because his career is "in virtual limbo" Makes me wonder if Harold set this up so if he were fired, he could say it was because he fired Hamilton. Hmmmmmm

The chief did not tell the whole story to the paper. If he is not reappointed, it will be because things he has done illegally i.e. fixing tickets. He is just a coward just like the unnamed alderman. Just like the former mayor took revenge on Parker supporters, so is Dunivant. Parker supporters are walking around with targets on them. Hopefully the current administration will get on the ball!

They have a time sheet they sign in with and then give it to the dispatcher to verify. The dispatcher on duty is a long time employee of the NPD. Do you really think she would jeopardize her job by falsifying records?

Why not get a time clock with hand print verification and solve the problem?

How is this for one of the supposedly fine officers of Newbern PD Rodney Wright? Ask yourself why would you want to hire a person who is a conviceted felon that had to use a judicial diversion to get out of it. Seems the chief is as corrupt as his other officers too. It seems their needs to be a full investigation of the whole department starting from the chief down especially the 2 so called wanna be investigators they have working...

On July 30, 1999, Wright was charged with aggravated assault in connection with a domestic incident between him and his then-wife.   The full record of that proceeding is not before us.   However, years later, Wright would testify before the POST Commission that he did not strike his wife, but rather that she struck him.   He admitted there was a “shoving match,” and that he “used a pressure point technique to try to gain control over her and ․ make her stop fighting me․ [I] said, quit kicking, quit fighting, stop this[.]”  He added,“[t]hat's exactly what I told the judge I did.”   Wright resigned from the Newbern Police Department four days after the charge was filed.

On the advice of counsel, Wright pleaded guilty to simple assault because, according to him, he wanted to avoid the risk of a jury trial.   He entered this plea on September 18, 2000, and was placed on judicial diversion.   The court's order states, in pertinent part, as follows:

It appears to the Court that the defendant, RODNEY WRIGHT, has entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Assault as mentioned above, and that the parties hereto agree that an adjudication of guilt should be withheld and further proceedings in this cause deferred under the provisions of T.C.A. Section 40-35-313, pending completion by defendant of a period of supervised probation for 11 months and 29 days and to attend behavioral counseling.   Defendant is to pay a fine of $500.00;  complete 50 hours of community service;  and pay probation fee of $25.00 per month.   Fine is to be paid at $50.00 per month.

In the know, that has nothing to do with this issue. Oh wait...... You must be the officer who got fired trying to dish out any dirt you can. Well buddy it appears that he had his day and it's long over however your day is yet to come. According to the news cast, you could very well serve time. As a matter of fact, I did some googling earlier because I like to see facts, according to records you have been employed by a few law enforcement agencies and were either let go or quit. Unfortunately, that is as far as I got in researching. Leaves a lot of room for the imagination, seeing as what you are being accused of now. What a role model you are, hope you don't have any kids in your family using you as a role model. If so, I hope they find a better one soon.

Am I the only one wondering why everyone in the story had their name mentioned except the alderman? If he is so sure about all his facts and what he says he saw, then why not have his name printed. Is he "chicken" or something, seems sort of fishy to me. The story in the paper had a lot of details, but that one seemed to be missing. What's the deal? The whole thing has a bad smell to me.

Kris Smith was the alderman. I wonder what he was doing at the police department at 1100 at night when his pregnant wife was home alone.
