I've been looking for a house to rent. When I call to see how much it will cost to turn on the utilities they tell me over $400. Why is it so high? This is crazy. By the time you find a house for $400-$700,deposit $200-$350,Utilities $400 and over. How can people afford to move?

Forked deer, no matter if you are buying or renting, 400 deposit across the board. Dyersburg electric, they use a 2 1/2 months average as the deposit, so it varies from place to place. Now this is if you rent, if you own a home( or have bought one) your deposit is considerably lower. Bad part about this deal is if you are renting a 2 bedroom house, and it is you and say 1 child, you won't use much electricity, but if you are moving in after a family of five who let every tom dick and harry come over and use power, your deposit will be based off their 2 1/2 month average. Sucks all the way around.

What's crazy is that I had a deposit and moved, and had to pay another deposit. I asked about applying my first deposit to the second house and was told " it doesn't worh like that ". I asked if I could get my deposit back on the first house since I never missed a payment and was told no. What a scam.

The electric company will not help you out. It's sad.

It is terrible that so much is charged. Why?
Don't know whether they will help or not but I know that Newbern Water will not give you 10 xtra min. They just wait and turn it off. They won't help at all. Not uncommon tho for City Hall in Newbern.

I think the water & the electric both are outrageous to get turned on! I know several people who have recently moved & cannot afford to get the water on!

They should b paying customers to gt their service. No where are th e deposits so high. Im betting its lining pockets. How can anyone from here with NO jobs afford tht? Plus rent n deposit thr!
I moved up north awhile. Was not chrgd one dime for deposit. Dyersburg aint got one thing to get or keep people here. Nor do they care. Whatever they can do to get more money out o people is what will b done. Always been that way. Why change now?
People need to go to city meetings. Demand an audit. Lets see whr tht money has gone.

There is an audit every year. If people would quit skipping out and not paying their bills, the deposits woudl not be so high.

My point exactly. The mayor we have now in Dyersburg is the only one that has done this and we dont know what he does with the peoples money. He is rich and doesnt care. They wont even let you pay it out. People dont have this kind of money. We have to get rid of this mayor and this is the time it is election for the mayor. Do Not RE-ElECT John Holden.

This is true they are penalizing you for someone else how much they used. They dont know how much your bill will be. I have heard of some people that they wanted a 1000 deposit. This is the only mayor that has done this aand he is rich and cares nothing about the poor. We have to get him out it is election time we have one shot at this. Please get out to the polls and vote. Vote Holden out.
