Goodness it sounds like she needs to grow a heart and try to work with them to find a solution other than a flat out no.

I read the article. It's a crying shame she won't allow it. Saying no and implying that she wouldn't allow it in the future either... Very sad. I think we all need to speak up and do something about this.

Maybe it will teach the parents to stop spending their government assistance on drugs instead of feeding their kids.

There are always people on both sides of any topix subject. I find it very telling that this lady has no supporters...

And unfortunately for her she probably won't. Negativity doesn't bring supporters.

I had to have help with food stamps as a young single mom. Summers are hard. I didn't buy drugs, just the high cost of healthy food is crazy. And I only had one kid to feed.

Parents should be the ones punished for taking the food out of the kids mouths.they have enough welfare money as it is.Taxpayers should NOT be liable for any more assistance to non-working lazy folks.too damn many takers and not enough makers.Time to teach them a damn lesson.

When they have their 8 starving kids running around the house bugging the hell out of them for food at all hours all the night, they will think twice about spending it up on other crap.I think it is a great idea.

Yes, I agree it is wrong for the parents to receive food stamps and not spend it on the children. But some parents are trying as just a thought posted (#13). The bottom line is the children are the ones that suffer. Food stamps should be better monitored so that the children are getting the food that is meant for them. Too many people sell their food stamps and get away with it.

The program is in place so the point is this lady should let them feed the children there. crap we all know the kids cant help what their parents do. I couldn't help what mine did matter of fact it goes both ways we can't help what our grown kids do. There is NO reason with the program already in place that she should say NO feed the kids. They have plenty of room there. She just wants to show whose boss and she has the power to say no.

The parents have been to comfortable knowing if they spend the assistance it will be replaced by feeding programs. The parents should be made uncomfortable as hell so they will change their greedy habits. They need a fire lit under their lazy asses.Their kids are their scapegoats.Who pays for this feeding program.Does the money just appear out of no where?Maybe its grown in trees.

So - are you concerned with the fact that the Federal Government is feeding these children? It seems to me that you are for not feeding them. If you are concerned about the money, it seems cheaper to me to use a building we ALREADY paid for that is not being used except for storage than to pay our city workers to move tables around. And should one of those children get ran over crossing the street to the church, just who do you think will pick up that tab? It all seems to me that this is a federal program and that is a federally funded organization. We should be using the resources we have to give the most benefit for the same money. IF this woman is stopping that she should show her bosses why or they should override her.

What happens if a one of the children gets ran over crossing the street in the project? I thought the church was next to the projects on upper finley. Just saying

I have personally known Paula Ledford for many years. She is the girl from Milltown who started at DHA 40+ years ago as a secretary and is now the CEO. She treats all of the tenants (and employees) fairly and has dedicated her career to providing affordable housing. As for her work ethic, she does expect a lot from her employees, but no more than she expects from herself.

Paula has always supported community projects that help the residents. Anyone who knows Paula would know that she would never deny a meal to a child. There is obviously more to this story. Go get your facts straight before you gratuitously bash someone here.

So maybe next time before you make a comment you will come down here. There are children from both sides of the street as well as children who walk down this street. Why don't you come down and volunteer to help feed the children in the hot summer weather before you make a judgement. All of you might think different if you did. This is a good organization that is trying to look out for the smallest in our society. The fact that the director of the organization that is SUPPOSE to do that will not help is just disgusting. I tried to reach out with a logical response to someone who clearly has no compassion for children and who only cares about money. I do not support all federally funded programs either but I refuse to believe that we have got so COLD HEARTED that we think it is okay to punish children for their parents mistakes. If we have then we have all reached a new low in this country.
