I'm currently taking pre-req classes to begin Nursing. I've definitely decided on the LPN licensure, however would like more info as far as the RN licensure.

I'd like to work at the local hospital when I'm done (or a nearby city's hospital if that doesn't work)

Can anyone vouch for the pay difference with this? Would it be best to go for LPN and start working full time quicker, or go for the longer RN program?

I guess I'm wondering specifically to working in te hospital

Don't think DRMC has LPNs. All of the nurses I have seen there have RN on their name badges

Ok. Good to know that. Can anyone tell me what to expect as an RN at the hospital?

Long hours. Cry babies. People that smell bad. You're a better person than me dealing with all that.

I am a RN, never seen a hospital that did not employ LPN'S. You need to research, on your own, before you committ to this profession either as a RN or LPN.

Don't go to work for the Dyersburg Hospital! Find a private clinic or doctor's office.

DRMC does NOT hire LPN's only RN's. If you get your LPN you can always work and finish your school as an RN at the same time. LPN at Technology Center's is a one year program, then you can fast track from LPN to RN. Its also easier to get into and RN program if you have your LPN licensure.

Advice: Don't choose nursing based on salary. Let it be your hearts desire. BS nursing is preferred. St. Jude is awesome hospital to work for!

I'm definitely not basing it on salary! Truthfully. I'm just trying to get real-world input on the salary. It's not something you're told upfront...would just like a good idea :) thanks to all inputs!!

The 18 an hour has to to for a LPN. I know tons of RN's and the new ones fresh out if school make more than that. However, nursing takes a special person. I don't do it for the $, it's for gratification and helping others.

I'm not doing it for the money, as I have said. I have already chosen this career, no matter what the money is.

It would just be nice to know the pay ahead of time, if you can understand.

Any RN pay numbers?

Lol I do understand however ever comment you have posted has been geared towards PAY! One of the first skills you need to posess is communication! Being an advocate! From what I'm reading (correct me if I'm mistaken) your major focus is the pay. So therefore (an example) you call the MD for a patient with CHF who has an order for a bolus of NS,,,,when you call all you focus on is the patients concern of shortness of breath and you neglect to bring to his attention YOUR patient has CHF! My point is clarification and being very CLEAR with your concerns. Seems your concern is the all mighty $.

Wow. No, I'm very sorry if its come across that way. I do understand the importance of the job, and believe it is my calling to do this work. I have prayed and prayed on where to turn my life, and I am 100% sure this is where I am suppose to be.

The point of my post was just to obtain some information. Sorry this comes across differently

I can't vouch for the RN pay, as I am currently debating doing the fast track myself
