Our cat has been diagnosed with FIV, and we've treated him for a while but it's not getting better. We need to put him down, especially now that it's so cold outside (too sick to move him inside) I want to be humane about it but we need to do it as cheaply as possible. How much does it cost at the vet? and which vet? Will the Humane socity help?

I don't know about cats, but when I had my large dog put down..(he had cancer). The Dyer County Animal hospital charged us $33. We brought him back home with us. Just call and ask. They are always more than helpful.

I think the animal shelter will do it for you for a small fee, the one in Blytheville used to I know, they put them down every week, so I don't know why they wouldn't help you out.

IF YOU LOVED YOUR ANIMAL LIKE PART OF THE FAMILY... YA, PROLLY NO BULLETS - BUT BETH SAID IF YOU TAKE THE CAT TO THE HUMANE SOCIETY AND SURRENDER THE CAT THEY WILL PUT IT DOWN FOR YOU AS LONG AS YOU MAKE A DONATION OF AT LEAST A DOLLAR. SOMETHING ABOUT ASPCA?? DON'T KNOW NOTHING ABOUT ALL THAT.. SHE DOES - SO THAT IS WHAT SHE SAID YOU COULD DO. GOOD LUCK, SORRY ABOUT YOUR ANIMAL. TAKE CARE OF YOU AND YOURS.. PEACE.

Hi, so sorry to hear that. Try Three Way Animal Clinic. It is listed in the phone book, out of Humboldt,Tn. Dr Mattie Childers, is excellent and she loves cats. Good Luck, & Bless your Kitty.

I know you probably do not like talking about it, but I was wonderingwhat kind of symptoms your dog had before he was dianosed? My dog is 10 and a large breed, and I have discovered lumps on him. The vet told me that they were probably just fatty tumors and nothing to worry about, but the only way to know for certain is to remove them. My thing is I love my dog so much that the thought of him dying just scares the hell out of me and I think that since there is not a lot you can do for a dog with cancer I would rather not know and when the time comes to put him down we will know. I guess my question to you is was your dogs last years happy or did he spend them sick from treatment and would you still handle the situation the same way? Oh and what were the symptoms my dog acts fine he sleeps a lot but he is ten afterall lol. Sorry if this is something you'd rather not discuss.
cheers

Thats how our dog of 14 years started out too and guess what that fatty toumor one day when we got up had doubled in size and they took it off and it was cancer they let them stay there for years and it could have been taken care of but they just keep saying fatty tumor. My family was very upset when she passed away we had to have her put to sleep. I hope u get ur dog the treatment they need I now take my pets to Union City to Reelfoot Animal hospital I dont trust any of them in Dyersburg nmow.

My boxer has a knot, tumor, whatever you want to call it, as well. I don't go to the vets in Dyersburg, and my vet told us she *could* take it out, but the thing with cancer is (yes, we know it's cancer) when she cuts her - the cancer can spread. She would have to take out a HUGE area around it to make sure she gets it all.

My baby girl is still very active and cutting her that much and with her that active...it would be hard for her to heal and keep infection from setting in.

She doesn't act sick at all either. She runs, she plays, like I said, she's VERY active, so right now it's not affecting her quality of life (she's almost 7 years old). When it swells, I give her Prednisone to take it down.

From what I've read, Boxers are prone to those cancer tumors. We've chosen to not have hers removed simply because I don't want to take a chance on it spreading. Everyone is different and that is the decision we made for our girl.

To the original poster...I'm sorry for going off topic and I'm sorry about your cat. Animals definitely do become a part of the family.

to all the insensitive ppl making jokes about killing cats, it is not funny.
animal cruelty is rampant in our country and the fact that you could even joke about something like that is disgustingly immature.
you obviously never owned a pet that was part of your family or you couldn't be so cold hearted
be more responsible and don't spread your ugly comments around for others to get more sick ideas.
losing a pet is a heartwrenching experience and if you can't show any compassion, then shut up.

I would be ashamed to put your little thoughts on here if I were you.did your parents raise you to mistreat aminals? I have found out in all the years of having pets ,animals lovers are the best people.they treat people better, kinder, and can carry on a decent topix comment.

You obviously have a sick, desperate need for attention to make that comment. Only deranged people inflict pain and suffering onto each other and onto animals and have such ugly thoughts. Unless they are trained to attack by humans, you will never ever see an animal hurt another living thing simply to be cruel. That speaks higher of the animals than anyone can of you.
