I am thinking about sending my son to DHS next year for the 9th grade. I currently live near Caruthersville and do not want him to spend his high school years in trailers. The high school here (C'ville) was severly damaged in the April tornado and there are no definite plans to rebuild anytime soon. I'm in a dilemma because he really wants to play football, so the other schools around here are out. Please post comments on the quality of the high school in Dyersburg.

Surely someone out there can tell me about DHS from inside experience. I've heard it is a great school but can't find anyone with first hand experience.

apparently dyersburg is a good school as they average over 2 million annually in scholarships (for a 175 member senior class).....
and they have one very good football program.....
they have been in the playoffs every year for the last ten years and have been in the semi-finals twice in the last 8 or so.....

Both schools are great . My kids both attended and are graduating from Dyer Co.High . It`s a great school, they both have great athletic groups as well as other clubs. It all depends on your kids choice I guess. My son went to DHS his freshman year but decided to go to DCH the rest of his years and I couldn`t be happier with it .

Dyer Co. is for rednecks. If your child is a redneck then send him to Dyer co. if not send him to dhs

Send your child to Dyersburg City Schools. ACT scores are higher, they have college prep classes, and and overall GPA's are higher. Closer for you also if you are coming from Carruthersville.

I go to Dyersburg High School. i will be a junior next year. I can tell you from experience, that it is a great school to attend. It has many programs for excelled children, but also great classes for the students that aren't on the University path. I encourage you to send you son here.

Not really that much difference between the two. Both are large schools with excellent faculty and staff. Dyer County does have a new campus. I guess the main difference between the two would be the schedule. Dyersburg is on a traditional schedule, and Dyer County is on a block schedule. Both schools get the same amount of holidays, vacations, etc... at exactly the same time. Both have advanced classes. Let's face it, given the geographical location of the entire area, DHS has the same amount of rednecks as DCHS. Personally, I would send my child to DCHS only because that is where I attended. DHS would be closer to you though.
